I've been hard at work on my JPN PS2 & Famicom collections recently. I really just want to get these collections finished so I don't have to think about it anymore!

I picked up Ninja Ryukenden 3 (Ninja Gaiden 3), Donkey Kong 3, & FC Genjin (AKA Bonk from Bonk's Adventure). All complete.

The DK3 was the best buy at about $8. $14 for the Ninja Ryukenden, $25 for the FC Genjin.

Anyone else pick up any Famicom titles recently?

I bought Uchuu Keibitai SDF on Yahoo Japan recently but it hasn't arrived yet. It was complete and looked real nice, but it wasn't cheap. :(

I read somone's opinion of it who felt it was the second best famicom shooter after Recca and I just had to try it. I never heard of it before then.
This other guy had some pics and a few things to say about the game. I gather he was less impressed.

Looks pretty cool. I am not a huge fan of shooters in general, but let us know how it plays.

Boxed/Complete Games I want to pick-up:

-Devil World (Small Box/Laser Title)
-Donkey Kong (Small Box/Laser Title)
-Donkey Kong Jr. (Small Box/Laser Title)
-Mahjong (Small Box/Laser Title)
-Mario Bros. (Small Bo Laser Title)
-Popeye (Small Box/Laser Title))
-Sweet Home (have a cartridge, but want the complete version)
-Balloon Fight
-Ice Climbers
-Super Mario Bros. 1
-Super Mario Bros. 3 (way too expensive for the famicom $25-40!!)
-Top Secret: Hitler's Revival ($50+)
-Famicom Wars
-Takeshi's Challenge
-Legend of Zelda
-Elevator Action
-Ninja-Kun [Series]

These are the games that I really want to "complete" my collection. I know there are probably some that I forgot about, but these are the main ones I am looking for.

Yesterday my complete copy of Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti arrived in the mail. So far I'm having a blast with it. Definitely a fun little game.

Unfortunately not. But it did come with the flyer for other Namco games which is pretty cool.

I got lucky enough to pick up a boxed Wanpakku Graffiti with the decals for like $5, but it didn't have the manual!

Personally, I would rather have the manual than the stickers, but I figure I can obtain a manual somehow as the stickers seem to actually be rarer.

schnuth thanks for the reminder about Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti I forgot about that one. I'll be adding that to my list of famicom games to check out.

I just purchased the Famicom versions of Bad Dudes (complete for $4.00) and Ninja Gaiden 2(loose for $3.00). I haven't had a chance to play them yet though. As for my Famicom collection, I treat my want list like all my other collections. I obviously want games that never came out over here. But I also want to get all my favorite games in the Japanese version. That gives me another reason to play thru them again. So I have the US and Japanese NES/Famicom versions of:

Bad Dudes
Double Dragon 1 and 2
Contra
Life Force
Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2
Super C
TMNT
Robocop

I have many more to come but thats a nice start based on some of my favorite Nes games.

How is the Famicom version of Mike Tyson's Punch Out? Any different than it's US counterpart?

No it's identical as far as I can tell.

I recently got Mitsume ga Tooru (Three Eyed Kid) for the Famicom, and it's suprisingly good! I've never heard of it before, but it's a nice little platformer for the Famicom. Great graphics and pretty decent gameplay.

I keep finding subtle differences in my Famicom games. In the Japanese version of Contra and Bad Dudes--they have added cut scenes not found in the US version. And I heard that the Famicom version of Life Force had multiple endings, but I've only beat it once so I can't confirm that yet.

I also finally got my NES/Famicom adapter... this morning! The retailer in Hong Kong had emailed to say they were out of it, so I had assumed it wasn't on its way! That was months ago, so it suffices to say I was shocked when the delivery guy came a'knockin' at 9am. Now I am finally playing Splatterhouse: Wankpaku Graffiti and Kid Dracula (carts only, thank you very much). They seem to go together like peas and carrots.

I've noticed that people who start getting into the Famicom, like me, gravitate toward these two titles. Are there any other chibi parodies of horror franchises, or is this as good as it gets?

Same; however, the Famicom got an early release of MTPO as just PO -- the gold prize Punch-Out!! Special -- which has some different language, color, music...and no final "dream bout" at all, unlike MTPO and the later PO release for the NES, both of which had the final "dream bout."

So let me get this straight: the gold prize Punch-Out goes for tons more money than the regular version and has less content? What the hell!!!

Two reasons: 1) It's gold; and 2) it had a limited release (10,000).

As far as I'm aware, those are the only two horror parodies on the Famicom...unless you want to count Devil World. The Japanese Castlevania 3 is badass, though, what with the fancier music and the slight gameplay changes (which I think make it a better game.) Grant throwing knives wins!

Well, there's also that goofy as hell port of Maniac Mansion...

I just picked up Splatterhouse Wanpaku myself; but I plan on making an event of playing it with my friends. Apparently there is assembled interest in going through a previously unknown Splatterhouse!
