While his mother was away the boy had taken the power supply and wrapped it in plastic and tape. In an attempt to cool it off, he submerged it into a pan of water with the cord still plugged in.

That says all you need to know.

Was he literally trying to get the red ring of death?

"Aside from getting knocked unconscious the boy only suffered small burns to his right hand and foot."

I guess he overheated himself.

He was taken to the Transylvania Community Hospital in Brevard where he spent the night.

I hope he suffers from constant fear of electronic devices and water. heh.

Not to mention he's out a XBOX360

I have no Idea what he was thinking, Putting it in water while it was still plugged in.. You're not even supposed to put the thing in water in the first place... You could stick it in a freezer if it is unplugged, But..

Maybe he was playing BioShock, and he wondered what it felt like to be zapped by the Electrobolt Plasmid... LOL

That is incredible how he survived something like that. Yet what got my interest is that there is a hospital named TRANSLYVANIA.

When I saw that, I thought for sure this story was a fake given the OP's somewhat checkered history around here. I'd hate to be their receptionist after this BS, what with all the crank calls that are sure to surface. "Hey, this is Count Dracula. I'll be back before sunrise" or "This is Van Helsing. Tell me what room the Count sleeps in!"

I would love to have seen the forum thread that must have led to that action.

Me, too. The idea of a thread suggesting this makes me think of an EGM review from 4-5 years back in which the reviewer accuses 989 Sports of being "reduced to simian chimps cobbling together code", or something like that, in response to a particularly bad PS2 college basketball title. Find this original thread and I think we will have found a few more of those chimps.

Natural Selection at it's finest.

Every time a stupid person is taken to the hospital, evolution and natural selection are thwarted.

In five years, this guy is going to totally screw up 5 out of 10 orders at a Domino's Pizza location near one of you. If he is still alive, that is.

What th... you mean tape isn't watertight?:eek 2:

An impromptu poll. What sort of tape do you think this guy used?

A. Scotch tape
B. Duct tape
C. Packing tape
D. Masking tape

(Notice I didn't include a choice for electrical tape, because I personally think it was Choice B)

I can't get enough of this thread, so I am posting again!

I've noticed on the 360 boards at GameFAQ's the red-light "Towel Trick" occasionally gets referred to as the "Wet Towel Trick". I winced the first time I read it. I guess that's what happens when you have a bunch of 13 yr. olds suddenly posting their electronics expertise.

Wow. Just... wow. I can't believe that he didn't just put a fan or something to dissipate the heat emitted from the power brick. Dihydrogen monoxide + electricity = shock hazard and ruined electronics.

LMAO that was awesome. I think I knew at 6 or 7 that electricity and water don't mix. I remember watching videos in grade 1 or 2 all about electricity. This dumbass got what he had coming.

I wonder if his buddies on the forum that suggested this nifty "idea" are going to give him a hero's welcome when he gets back online because he "took one for the team."

Personally, if I pulled a Charlie Gordon like this kid did then I wouldn't show my face on that forum again. I can see his triumphant return now, complete with the errors I left in below.

"Hey guys. I tried what you posted about putting my 360 plug in water with tape around it but it didn't work so well. In fact, I got a huge shock. I'm back from the hsopital. What should I try next?"

knowing the savant this kid is, he probably took the pan his mom was just done cooking with off the stove, then using it to "cool down" his power brick.
