For the last few years, I've been on a mission to re-collect all the old 8-bit Atari games that I got rid of about 15 years ago. These are the games I grew up with and the ones that hold the most nostalgic value for me. As many of you know 8-bit carts in the wild tend to be quite elusive, and I made a conscious decision not to get involved with the old disk drives. This has sadly made my hunt all the more frustrating and unfortunately eliminated some of the better titles, which were never released on cartridge.

Well all this changed this weekend when I finally got around to making the SIOPC interface: http://www.tcainternet.com/wa5bdu/sio2pc.htm .
This thing is fantastic and I feel like I'm a kid again with all my old games: Jumpman, Shamus, One-on-One, and Mountain King. Even better than those, I can also play the more intense 'disk based' games like F-15 strike eagle, and my favorites Castle Wolfenstein and Beyond Castle Wolfenstein. This cool device uses a PC to emulate the Atari's disk drive. You can buy interfaces already wired up from a number of places on the Internet or build your own (about 1 hours effort). I chose to build my own and mounted it inside my 130XE and added a new serial connector to the back.

Does anybody else use one of these, and what are your thoughts on it? And for those of you who haven't what are your favorite 8-bit titles? I'd write more but I've got more gaming memories to re-live.
