Just doing a quick Harvest Moon Rune Factory review for DS, It's a overalll good game, something new to the series. You got to have passes to get in caves and other mountains. The town is pretty big and wide, there's plenty of places to go. Also, the farm is nice, you can get a sword. You start off with a Hoe and Water Can aswell.

Dammit! Thanks for the spoiler, I was going to get the game . . .
You may want to change the title to initial impressions if you have not completed the game, I cant tell how long you have played it based on that review.

I almost picked this game up yesterday... but I didn't. Now I wish I had.

I personally haven't gotten my hands on it (go figure) but it looks great.
What means even more too me is I know a lot of people that don't play Harvest Moon games that are picking this up and giving it a go. I think after I try it, it will be one of the top games of the series for me, probably just because of the little change they did to switch it up.
*Edit* Woo, and can't argue that my 100th post was on a Harvest Moon game! Awesome.

anyone else have any impressions on this game? I will say that I like the harvest moon series, however the only ones I have played alot (and very much enjoyed) were save the homeland and harvest moon 64. I was really thinking of picking this up because I think its great that they have intergrated standard RPG type gameplay into the already addicting farming element.
Is this game easily playable in say 30 minute bursts, like can you save easily anywhere? I ask because I need a good handheld game for my breaks during college.

Can't go wrong with a ho and a water can. Does it let you put that bitch to work? LOL

I don't think so but you slay the monsters and can battle with them or put them to work watering, harvesting and whatnot. You can have up too 100. It looks like a really good breath of fresh air to the series and I'm looking forward to it despite this gamefaqs-esqe review.

Is anyone else tempted to get the strategy guide to this game? I don't think I'll buy the game itself in the immediate future, but I do think I'll buy it at some point, and when I do I'll want the guide, and so I want to get the guide while it is still around. The only other two Harvest Moon strategy guides that I know of were Back To Nature and Magical Melody, and they're both worth $30-60 now.

Not sure, how to get passes still.

Uh, are you not talking to the townsfolks or what? The mayor clearly tells you that you need to plow 100 sqaures of field before you get the first pass.
I am still on the fence on if I like this game or not. It's quite obvious that the focus isn't going to be on the farm and more towards expoloring the various caves in the area. It seems that later on in the game, you'll even be able to visit a different kingdom.
I feel a bit lost when it comes to the monsters and how to use them. I told my monster to harvest the field and the lazy bum is just hanging out in the hut! /me shakes her fist. **update, the bums don't start work until 10 AM and only work in 2 hour shifts**
Their attacks can have various lasting effects on you, but there's no explanation as to what those effects actually are and what they do. I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that the purple skull looking one is poison, but I didn't notice my HP or RP going down, so is it really worth the 200 bucks to get it fixed by the doctor? guh.

Is the poison like Phantasy Star 2 where it doesn't damage your health, but you can't heal yourself?

I haven't gotten all that far in to know if there is a spell that one to cast to cure the poison. You can buy potions from the doctor, or visit the doctor and get a checkup - either of which will cure the poison.
