Is an Xbox 360 worth it without an HD TV, and online (online for now)??? I already have a Wii, but thinking about saving for a 360.

Edit: Also, I've been hearing that they aren't very reliable. Is that true?

I used my 360 on a single def TV for a while, and it was very playable (XBLA stuff, demos, and Gear of War was all I had). If you're playing on a very low quality TV, then it's a bit rough. Being online on my 360 was more important, because the friends lists, communication between online friends, and especially XBLA and Marketplace demos are a big part of the 360 experience, imho. I would also say that getting even a cheap surround system added as much to the games as an HDTV.

I have no HD tv and I am enjoying it just fine. Yes some of the games won't look as good as they can, but many still look amazing. Just pop in BioShock or Gears of War and you'll see what I mean, and add Halo 3 to the mix next month and you'll be oozing some good visuals. The system isn't dropping offline anytime soon, and the only games dropping support are 3 year old sports games. I can still toss up any original Live title for the XBox (minus the sports titles) and can play. The only catch there, is if anyone is even playing that game. Current online components for 360 games are going strong, even for launch titles (i've been playing Perfect Dark: Zero alot lately) so i'd not worry about that.

In regards to the system survivability, now that theres a 3 year warranty your pretty safe. The newer systems are coming out with heat sync revisions that are making them alot sturdier and less prone to giving you the 3 rings of death and if you got an older system you've got enough time for its true colors to show (if they ever do) and get it fixed/replaced by MS for free.

The only system I use for any type of internet downloads is the Wii-only because I love the old classic Nintendo games! Other than that, I do just fine without the fancy TV and the internet. I hope that helps. Of course, that is just my opinion. I always thought multiplayer gaming was over-rated. Anyone else feel the same way, or am I greatly outnumbered?

I hate the fact that games are being distrubuted through online media. I want to be able to go to the store and buy my game! Thats the collector in me!

Yeah, but there's a lot more than just gaming on the 360 in terms of online. Demos, videos, movies, movie trailers, and of course Live Arcade titles.

I feel the same way too. I cannot play with strangers as I cannot deal with strange people who are talk down on me and treat me like shit - I get enough of that already.

HOWEVER-- I do enjoy playing online with my long time friend who had moved far away. It is nice to be able to play games together like back when we used to play games as children.

I have come to hate online gaming as well. I can't stand the stupid clans and the dirty mouth 12yo little kids.

I have a X360 on a non-HDTV and it does fine. I can't really say I care much for the online gaming component (I was a Counterstrike player not that long ago) since I can't really wrap my head around buying a game and then paying money for subscription service for online play after you have to purchase broadband internet access. Seems too AOL for me.

If they can think of a way to make some of the games on XBLA that I actually would like (such as Castlevania: SOTN and Catan among others) free then that would be awesome.

The 360 is worth it without HD, But if it is in HD it is beautiful! If you don't have an HD Set, At least buy a VGA Cable for the 360! ($10 used at gamestop)

And the 360 isn't supposed to be very reliable, But I've had mine for one year and 10 days and it is still working good.

yeah its worth it. plenty to play offline (GOW alone or with a friend in person is awesome!) then factor in bioshock and halo and tons of other stuff to and your good to go. HDTV is great I love it especially on large sets like I have access to but most of the time I play on a 27in sony flat screen non hd with component cables which is fine for me

Its true that it isnt very reliable but MS does support it quite well mine died after about a year and they fixed it in a week

First of all the 360 is great with or without a hdtv, because you still get everything out of it, just standard 480i visuals *non-hdtv*, BUT i do say so myself that an HDTV does make it way more worth it cause the games are great to look at! I think you'll survive with what ever games you have without online, i have tons of games but only play online with one, its all preference... For reliability i have had no problems and i purchased a year after launch, my other buddy has had from launch and no problems either.. I say keep it well ventilated and take care of it and it will last "kinda corny" but my cuz never took care of his and hes gone threw 3.. I say save and go for it!\\^_^/
