I've seen various ads in various places where people post "LOOKING FOR OLD NINTENDO GAME! SEND ME A LIST AND I'LL TELL YOU WANT I WANT", or similar.
Has anyone here done this, or anyone here currently doing this? Just curious what the success rate is.
I don't think I would ever do this, I'd rather take the lurking and hoping for a good deal approach to the classifieds. Actually, it kind of bugs me when I do see these kind of ads.
Thoughts?

absolutely, this is a good way to get old games cheap or free even. I ask people at my job all the time "got any old games?" and they usually say yeah and give me a bag of NES, SNES, n64 games etc. I even got some sealed games for NES and SNES like this for about a dollar each from one of my 40+ year old co workers.

I've done it multiple times -- it's usually hit or miss as to what kind of deals you'll get, but everytime I've done it, there's always been something that makes the placement worthwhile. The best deal I ever got was a lot of some 80-odd loose Atari 2600 games (no doubles) for $20. I always recommend that people do this just because this seems like an avenue that most people don't take (although, it could vary from area to area; I've never seen anybody besides myself take out any ads, but apparently the OP has).
Another thing: If you do place an ad, don't be vague. I usually say something along the lines of "Looking for old video games: From mid-90's and earlier. Mainly interested in games for consoles x, y, and z, etc. etc." If you take the time to flesh and write out an ad a little bit instead of posting something like "GIMME NINTENDO GAMEZ RARH", it will attract people more, and you'll be more likely to make a sale. Plus, it will help maintain a difference between older and what people think is older (like PSX and/or 2, Gamecube, etc.). Just my two centavos.

I've seen them posted on craigslist, the local free newspaper, the local IGA, and similar places in the city I lived in previously.
I don't know, I might give it a shot, but there's already competition around here. I'm also thinking that if the person looks on craigslist and sees some of the stupid prices other people want for similar items, then they'll expect me to offer the same.
Urgh.
Edmonton has, surprisingly, too many collectors, flea market whores, and crumby overpriced gamestores. I'm starting to get a little disillusioned. Especially when people want like, say, 40$ for WildArms3, which was in every Superstore bargain bin in both cities for 10$.
Oh well.
