I played this at PAX, and boy where do I start. Bugs, PS2 graphics, framerate, and more. Do not buy this game at full price! RPG starved people my somewhat enjoy this if you are just dying to play a fantasy game, but dam, this game is full of bugs, glitches, and should not be supported at full price. buyer beware!

I decided to buy it because I was able to get it for $40 shipped on ebay, I fugure if I hate it I can resell it and atleast make my money back (on ebay), however the game DOES look fun from videos, and there are some people out there that reportedly really like the game.
Alot of people say the first couple of hours of the game are terrible, but then it really starts to grow on them and become a semi-enjoyable game....guess will find out in a few days.

I thought the trailer was terrible -- guess the first reports coming from those who've played it aren't going to sway my opinion much.

Looks like I'll be waiting for Eternal Sonata after all...

Damn, I was looking forward to this one. I still wasn't going to pick it up at $60, but pick it up at $30-$40. Maybe it will drop quicker now.

I wanted to get this for the multiplayer, but with Bioshock just coming out everyone I know will be playing that. Then comes Blue Dragon and Eternal Sonata. Two Worlds looks like the perfect game to pick up later on clearence. For example, Nintey-Nine Nights didn't look that great either, but for $20 it's a blast.

I picked this game up for 45 dollars, and have to say that it was a mistake. (for now)
The online multi-player is completely laggy. It seems to run fine if you are playing by yourself, but I bought this game because a bunch of my Phantasy Star Universe buddies wanted to try it.
While we all agree that Two Worlds seems to have "potential", the online multi-player just makes me angry...... "CAPTAIN SMASH!!!!"
I have heard that they are working on patching the game, and I have been told that appearantly the servers are EU based? (with US servers in the works). Of course I don't think that I've seen any official word as of yet.
Do yourself a favor, and do not buy this game until you can get it on the cheap.

I can't make any comments about the XBox 360 version specifically because I bought the PC version, but I have to say I actually like the game quite a bit. Of course, if you're looking for an Oblivion-like experience or for a great multiplayer game then you're probably going to be disappointed, but if you know what you're getting into then you'll probably find the game to be fairly enjoyable.
I gave my impressions about the PC demo in an earlier thread, and most of my comments from that thread still stand. The graphics are at least a couple of notches lower than those of Oblivion or Gothic 3, the voice acting ranges from average to well-below average, and some of the animation isn't quite as fluid as it could be (but much better than the demo), but so far the game seems to get it right where it counts, at least for me: lots of places to explore, tons of different loot to pick up and try out, interesting character development mechanics, and some relatively unique features (like 'doubling up' identical weapons to produce stronger versions of the weapon, or finding cards that can be associated with an active spell to modify its attributes, making it cheaper to cast or more powerful, for example).
From a performance and stability standpoint, the game is certainly much more stable than Gothic III -- I haven't run into any crashes or other weird bugs yet, and the performance seems adequate, though my PC hardware is fairly modern, so YMMV if you run with older hardware. The controls work fine too--even the mounts work OK if you understand the way they're supposed to operate (you control the mount indirectly by using the reins, and the feel of the controls reflect this).
If your main objective is to say *WOW* every time you see some new shader effect or breathtaking vista when you climb a hill, or to pwn n00bs in multiplayer, then Two Worlds is probably not for you, since the polish that makes Oblivion shine is lacking in places. However, if you were a fan of the style of the first two Gothic games (warts and all), and appreciate open spaces, adventure and exploration more than shiny graphics, you might find the game (well, the PC version, anyway) worth your time. I'm sitting at work thinking about the game and what I want to go do next, which means they must have done something right... :)

Anyone find it strange that the game has been out for a week already and still no reviews on either IGN or Gamespot?

Maybe they are waiting for the game to be patched? I don't know though.....
I can't imagine them giving it a good review. I like a lot about the game, but then I remember I bought it for the multi-player and get mad again.....

Esquire, you bring up a good point. There is so much politics about when a review can and cant be done in a mag and on a website. With a dismal review these days, it can sink a whole company. Yes, not having the review almost anywhere, espically at IGN is disturbing.

So is this game "Sandbox-like"? It looks like it from the videos I've seen, but I haven't noticed the word used by people who have played Two Worlds. To me it looks like a sandbox/RPG hybrid...which sounds fun (at least in theory).

The PC version is fine from what I hear, and has the online co-op. The 360 version is the terrible one, with nothing but online deathmatch.

yep terrible game, I suppose the soundtrack was good but that only helps to make the game seem worse!

I actually decided to take the plunge and see what all the negative hype was about. I'm actually enjoying building my character so far, although I do see where a lot of the complaints are. The graphics are a bit on the choppy side, the voice acting is quite bad and I haven't even tried the online yet. I'll wait until there are more servers stateside. I'm giving this one the benefit of the doubt for a while and keep building my character. Despite the flaws, I'm having fun with it so far.

There does not seem to be much in the way of traditional fantasy RPG's this holiday season. Two Worlds may be the closest we get. Does anyone know of anything else we might see? All I have come across is Loki for the PC which was OK at best (demo is out).

Hey Pete, that is exactly how I feel about it. Granted, I did not have to pay for this one, but after the first hour or so it does start to get enjoyable. It has a main story line and side quests. It does not have the super involved plot of say Oblivion.
The tiny text in the hard to read font is annoying. At least Dead Rising used a sans serif font.
It has online co-op and PvP, which is also a selling point.
And it has the best stat ever for an RPG: Dirty Trick. Yes, Dirty Trick is a skill you can learn and level up.
It is buggy, and it is glitchy, but RPG fans will get some enjoyment out of this one, others probably should not even try it out as it has some pretty bad writing and dialog, that is the first turn off, beyond the sub-par graphics.

It was probably something along the lines of, "now or never". If they delayed it anymore it would get lost in the sea of A-list titles coming out for the next 6 months.

Keep in mind you had Blue Dragon coming out as well as Eternal Sonata and Oblivion GOTYE with all the downloadable content and the expansion coming out soon. I guess they wanted to beat all of them to the punch.

So, I've been playing this on and off for the last week, and I have to say that it's grown on me a lot. Oblivion this game is not... but I just can't put it down. so the game must be doing something right. If you can look past the various bugs and sometimes unimpressive framerate you will find quite a fun little (which is an understatement, as there is A LOT to do...) game. Glad I decided to try the game myself before just writing it off. And yes, the first few hours aren't really impressive but once you put a little time and effort into the game, well, it grows on you! :P

If you like Two Worlds and your not obsessed with graphics you might also try this game. It was mentioned in the latest PC Gamer (November 2007).
Gods: Lands of Infinity.

I played some of the demo. Same sort of game on a budget level. 10 years ago it would have been cool.

I picked Two Worlds up for my brother (he played oblivion to death and likes diablo style games) and he is having a blast with it.
It looked like a mix of oblivion and diablo to me (just saw him play and go into the menus for a few minutes), and if you're into that type of stuff then it's right up your alley.
It does look like ass, but if he (a mega-casual, buy 2 games a year-gamer) can get over it, then certainly "hardcore" gamers can too :)
