Yeah, I hear I need a cell phone. Bah. I figure I might as well get a phone that's decent for downloadable games, however.

It should be able to run stuff off http://www.konamimobile.com/ which seems to contain pretty standard Java stuff.

The new Razr 2 looks alright; my folks had older Razrs (I guess V1?) and I'm semi-familiar with those.

I have a sony ericsson w810 which plays all the stuff on konamimobile, as well as the sega ones. I just download games online and transfer them to my memory stick and they play flawlessly.

I can tell you: NOT the bottom-of-line Samsung... That's what I have, and it's too slow for gaming (I have 3 games on it: Pac-Man Pinball, Trivial Pursuit and Sudoku. Sudoku and Trivial Pursuit run fine, but Pac-Man Pinball has some serious slowdown issues that makes it not good). Therefore, I decided to stick only with static games (besides, in comparison, Sudoku is less of a battery hog than Pac-Man Pinball).

I'm probably just gonna get a Razr 2 (OMG TEH NEW!!1) on AT&T (so it's a V9 with 3G and not a possibly crippled Verizon phone).

I don't have a killer reason not to get a N-Gage, other than that I don't know how well it works compared to newer phones (and of course SIDETALKIN' with the original N-GAGE), feels like a toy, dunno how good the support still is, etc.

Also, Razr 2 has lunix and a 500 MHz processor on it, which has gotta be worth something! ;D

Razrs fucking suck. That's all I have to say on that matter.

Also, I would recommend an N-Gage QD. It does have some decent games and I hear the phone support isn't all that bad.

I hear an NES emulator is being worked on for the iPhone...

Meh. Phones still suck for gaming. You should wait for the PSPhone or something. That's what I'm doing.

I have an N-Gage QD myself. As a phone, it works just fine, except its age is showing -- it lacks certain features that are standard in newer phones, such as the ability to assign separate ringtones to different people in your address book. It's a little on the large side, too (not huge by any means, but it's a little bigger than most phones). I also get a lot of comments from people whenever I whip it out in public -- "what the hell is that?" To its credit, every time that I actually bother to explain its purpose and what it does, I always get a positive response. Like, "wow, that's really cool." I'm completely convinced that this thing could've been a success, if it had been handled better.

As a gaming phone, it's great. I still haven't seen any other phone with a gaming-friendly button layout. The N-Gage's own selection of games is actually not bad at all. But it's also a standard Symbian OS Smartphone, so there's a lot of regular mobile games that work on it as well. The only problem in this area is that it's getting kind of old. There's probably a lot of newer mobile games that require a more current phone. Also, the amount of built-in memory is pitiful, making a memory card an absolute must.

One thing that kind of irks me is that the QD has worse audio quality than the original N-Gage. The original N-Gage was marketed as an all-in-one device, and has a built-in MP3 player and FM radio. You can download software for the QD to match these functions, but the audio quality isn't quite good enough to seriously use it as an MP3 player (and it's in mono!). For games the audio is just fine, unless you're using headphones.

My only other complaint with the QD, as a phone, is that it doesn't have a camera.

The sidekicks, from what I've seen, have almost a controler layout. A sort of directional pad on the left with one button on the right. Miht be good for games, dunno. But they are Huge!
