With the upcoming Dodge Ball game on the DS looking very promising, I am interested in getting one of the previously released Dodge Ball games. I know the NES/Famicom version is considered a classic, but what about the versions for Super Famicom or GBA?

Do these "sequels" outshine the NES original? I know the Famicom version supports 4 players in one mode, but I would definitely be interested in an updated version if they are better overall games.

I love the Neo-Geo Dodge Ball game a lot. The Playstation also has a Dodgeball game on it that's entertaining that I believe you can use the multi-tap for 4-player action, similar to the Neo-Geo DB game. Although the NES version is fun a $10+ tag isn't totally worth it since there are a lot of other superior Dodge Ball games out there around the same price. That's my opinion though.

Sorry but I've never played the Famicon or GBA versions.

I’m kind of a dodge ball fanboy. I had the Neo Geo MVS Super Dodge Ball up until recently and although it was good, the best version I have so far is for the PC Engine. It’s basically a better version o f the NES game that’s closer to the arcade and looks far better…there’s also no slowdown. As for the Super Famicom version…I haven’t played it yet.

I've got the Korean SMS game, Run! Dodgeball King - it looks pretty, but plays a fairly shallow game...

I found the Super Deformed Super Robot Wars Dodgeball for SFC to be quite amusing, but that may be the Super Robot Wars fanboy in me talking.

Wow, there seems to be a lot more dodge ball games than I expected. I am really only interested in the Technos developed games however.

I just found out today that the original Famicom Super Dodge Ball is part of the Kunio-Kun Nekketsu Collection Vol. 1 for the Japanese GBA.

Does the PC Engine game support 4 players by chance?

I am having trouble finding any definite information about the quality Super Famicom game.

Series:

Super Dodge Ball [Famicom/NES]
Super Dodge Ball [Super Famicom]
Super Dodge Ball [PC Engine]
Super Dodge Ball [Neo Geo]

Super Dodge Ball Advance [Game Boy Advance]
Kunio-Kun Nekketsu Collection Vol. 1 (Famicom Port) [Game Boy Advance]

Chō Nekketsu Kōkō Kunio-kun Dodgeball Bu [Announced for Nintendo DS]

Ok well I finally found a nice overview/comparison of the entire series.

There was a B&W Game Boy version that apparently sucks. The Super Famicom game is choppy like the Famicom version, but the graphics look pretty nice from the screen shots.

check out the link...

OK, just found out some great news. The original Super Dodge Ball arcade game (best version compared with Famicom/Super Famicom/PC Engine) was released for the Japanese PS2. Looks like this is the one I am going to buy and try out.

Super DOdge Ball for NES was so awesome when it came out. The special moves and throws and the pseudo-fighting game style plus an end boss team was just too cool. It was almost like if the WWE had dodgeball, only without the divas, costumes, and umm, ok, so it isn't anything like WWE, but just play the damn game.
