Sounds too good to be true but I'd love to see it happen:

http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=19915

"120 million PS2/PStwo consoles prepare to become modded via the use of a plug ‘n play advanced custom memory card! A new product is preparing to be launched within the next two weeks which gives PS2/PSTwo owners all the functions of an advanced PS2 mod chip but directly from an advanced memory card. That means no masses of wires to be soldered, no voiding of the warranty, just a simple insertion of a special memory card known as ‘Vast’ which will fully unlock ANY PS2 console just as would a hard wired mod chip would do so. The product essentially exploits a flaw in the PS2 memory card system and uses MagicGate technology which means that the totally innovative design will be 100% secure. When inserted, the following operating system will boot giving any PS2/Two access to a wealth of features. For the time being, enjoy the following screenshots of the OS, we are expecting our insider to leak more information and media to us exclusively at MaxConsole as the launch draws ever closer."

I... don't know. A custom card? I hope that's not the case. I also hope that the software can be copied to a memory card on my own. :p

What? :p

Holy crap, I want this. If I have to buy another PS2 from my old mod potentially killing it, I should be way better off.

Unless this has the potential to nuke a PS2.

Not likely, even less than a soldered in modchip.......................

On one hand, I have zero use for this mod. On the other, I can't fucking wait for this sucker, because it sounds cool as hell. I love it when super neat hacks like this are discovered, and I love it even more when they become available to anyone. HDLoader was pretty sweet, the Independence Exploit was pretty neat, the combination of the two was fucking awesome.

This looks like the independence exploit taken to 11.

Can this only be used on the old, "fat" style PS2's? I was reading some of those comments in the Maxconsole thread, and people were saying that the exploit was fixed on the slim PStwo's. But I'm not sure if that just means the Independence exploit, or all memory card exploits.

I already have a chipped slim PS2 but I'd still buy one of these cards if they come out. Looks soooo good.

If this works it'll be awesome. I'll be able to carry a PS2 TEST unit around in my pocket...

I defiantly would love it for my PS2. I'm not one for modding systems.

It would be nice to have one of those things, especially for games that never came here. Yakuza 2, I'm looking in your direction.

The real question is, would this also work on PS1 games? I'm aiming towards no, but man would that be useful.

This would be nice...then I could get Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix +, since it probably won't come out over here.

Sweet deal, if it works with the PStwo then I may have to get one.

I'm not much into the modchip scene but I am very interested in this. It appears to allow you to use hard drives (like HDAdvance). It is unclear, however, if it can also do Progressive Scan (although the videomode options look interesting). I wish they would release more information.

If I already have a fat ps2 with the independance exploit, a 3rd party HDD and HDLoader, is this exploit of any use to me? (I only use these to back up my actually owned games to the HDD btw, seriously).

Even if its not, I can't wait to look into it. I love stuff like this :D

No PS2 mod chip that I know of to date works with PS1 games. I can't wait for this mod, and will be ditching my fliptop slim if all goes well!

Most mod-chips have done PS backups and imports, since the beginning.

Every solder modchip I know of except for really old ones support ps1. None of the less invasive methods (hdloader and exploits) support ps1 if thats what you mean.

So is this one going to support ps one?

So is this one going to support ps one?

I'm pretty sure it will. If you look at that screenshot, there's an option for PS1 video mode, so it looks like it'll play PS1 games.

this website might come in handy for just installing files on an existing memory card.

What I love most about uLaunchELF is that once you have the sucker installed, it's a piece of cake to backup and copy save games, even those that you normally couldn't copy (such as Monster Hunter). I don't use the PS2 or Action Replay save management interfaces for any-damn-thing anymore :)

Also, once you have one memory card loaded up, hooking up other people is quick and easy. Copy over your current exploited save file from your memory card and then copy over an updated title.db into it on their memory card. Really, once you go through the asspain of setting it up once (the Action Replay interface is so. fucking. slow.), the longest step in the entire process is powering on the PS2.

PLEASE tell me this will have a built in cheat function, and a force NTSC with PAL y-fix mode. If these are remotely affordable I'm all over it.

Oh. My. God. Looks like my PS2 has some considerable life left in it. Here's to embarking on a complete PSone/PS2 collection. My sanity has been left at the door.

Sometimes, yes. Sometime I want to expedite a game with 100000 hours of gameplay a little. Things in games that have nothing to do with your ability to play them other than how long you do so is kinda pointless. And then of course sometimes I feel like fucking around with debug type stuff. And hey, if they can do all this stuff, they may as well do a simple cheat function on it too.

Oooooo, I hope this allows me to play PAL games on my NTSC console. I would love to play the Virtua Cop Collection released only for PAL territories. I know its been said its not that great, but I still wanna play it :)

I hope it allows that too, I'd love to get my hands on Richard Burns Rally and the WRC games that never came out in the states.

Yeah, that seems to be what the forums are suggesting. Bah! You know, Sony could circumvent all this "evil hacking" nonsense by just not region locking their systems.

Seriously, all I wanted it for was to play imports. *Pouts*

I'm disappointed this is turning out to be crap.

I really did just want to play imports, too. The only games I bootlegged were dirt cheap anyway.

Hell, I probably shouldn't have even wasted the DVD-r.

No dice. It doesn't have a 60 hz mode.

That would be too bad if it was all an elaborate hoax. I was really hoping for an easier way to mod my PS2. I've currently got a DSM4 Pro chip, but haven't gotten up the nerve to try and install it myself yet, and with the recent crackdown on modders, I'm a little hesitant to ship it off somewhere. Oh well, there were only a couple of imports I was on the fence about getting (Mainly the Fist of the North Star fighting game that mentioned here in the last month), as far as domestic releases I'm set for a lifetime with my current collection.
