They all are recent releases rpg wise for the Ps2.
I need some opinions on what to get and what to avoid.

Piggybacking on this: I haven't played a Wild Arms game since the first one a decade ago. Would it be an ok move to start off with Wild Arms 4, or would I be missing out on too much backstory by skipping the second and third parts? Is Alter Code F worth checking out / do all of the changes made to it make it a better game or does it still suffer from the problems of the original game?
Wild Arms 5 looks and sounds pretty snazzy, but I don't want to hop in and be completely lost. :(

Persona 3: http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=104946
Grim Grimoire: Do you enjoy tatctics-like RPGs like Disgaea or Odin Sphere?
Wild Arms 5: Did you like the other Wild Arms games?
All are getting favorable reviews, with Wild Arms 5 being the lesser of the three. I'd say you can't really go wrong with any of them.
However, Wild Arms does come in a nice package with an art book, much like Persona does.

WA ACF is an updated version of the original with added characters and content
Wild arms 2 is good, 3 I would avoid, 4 has some action elements

Grim Grimoire is a Real Time Strategy game, Not an Rpg. But it is still very fun. Pick it up if you want something different.

All are good, but Persona 3 is the best in my opinion. Also, Persona 3 will be worth more in the future than the other titles you mentioned. I am basing this ideology on the fact that Persona 1 and 2 are quite hard to find, and always sell at a premium.
Wild Arms generally ends up in the discount bin...sorry to say!

Grim Grimore is pretty fun. The only thing about it is that it's fairly short, and I would guess fairly easy for RTS vets. Almost any map can be won through brute force, but I suppose you could just restrict yourself from using certain units. Overall it's a nice difference from what's normally available on consoles, but it feels like more diversion when you compare it to other RPG type games. It doesn't seem like a lot of people have bothered with it either.
The last Wild Arms game I played through was 3; I bought Alter Code, but I couldn't stand it long enough to get past Rudy's opening sequence. I was having a terrible time seeing him, it seems they decided 'Godcam' on a blue character in a blue cave was a good idea. From what I remember though it plays more like 3 than the original, including that idiotic running around they do in battle.
Unless they've changed things, you don't have to have played the earlier games to play the new one, as WA seems to think it's ok to re-organize the story's continuity every game. Personal preference, but either chuck it all (FF) or fit it together (Suikoden).
Can't really comment on Persona 3; I played the first Persona, and couldn't stand it.
Personally of the three, I'd go with Grim Grimore, if you don't mind something light, and then Persona (just because WA always seems to be available).

Skip them all and get Odin Sphere. You will NOT regret it. Came out shortly before Grim Grimoire, iirc.
Of the three, I've played Grim Grimoire and wasn't impressed enough to keep it after playing it for 10 hours or so.

Odin Sphere is a great game, but I do prefer Persona 3,
or you could always just buy both!

This was one of the things I was worried about with ACF, not having played three. I wasn't sure if it being reworked to be more like 3 was a good thing or not...I guess not. Oh well. I've heard good things about 4 and heard 5 is more like 4, so I guess I'll just pick that one up.
Also, WA5 getting the snazzy Persona 3-style treatment but $10 less helps raise my interest in it a bit. :)

See, not many people actually pay attention to any of the posts in the "Beaten in 2007" thread :'(

I pay attention, I just don't memorize them or cross-reference the thread every time I post! :)

I kid because I love. Honestly, the only reason I remembered was because I had just gotten done checking that thread for updates ;)
