View Full Version : Metroid Prime 3 - Friend Voucher Trading Thread

GrandAmChandler

So apparently when you play Metroid Prime 3, you can trigger a certain event which you receive a token. You can spend for items, but some you can only give away via Wii Connect. So, post your Wii Number here if you would like to trade MP3 Friend Vouchers. If anyone with the knowledge would care to elaborate on this, feel free

Here is how it works. You get the Friend tokens for various actions you do in the game. The most common actions that will get you friend tokens are kills. You get one at 100, 200, etc...once you hit 1000 kils then I think it goes to every 500 kills after that.

There are other ways too, but that is the most common that I've noticed. Anyway, you have to go into your options and setup the WiiConnect24 option. Basically you tell the game and system that you want your Metroid data to be shared on WiiConnect24. This also allows you to see which of your friends in your current friend list has Metroid Prime 3 save data.

Once you have this info, then you can give friend tokens that you have earned in the game to your friends on the friend list. They in turn can give you friend tokens back. In order to purchase the items in the Bonus Gallery you will have to receive friend tokens given to you by friends. Because of this, I don't know if it would actually be possible to unlock all unlockables in the game.

But that is the gist of how it works.

In order to purchase the items in the Bonus Gallery you will have to receive friend tokens given to you by friends.

So some of the tokens you receive in-game are designated as "friend tokens" which can only be given to a friend, who can then use them to unlock items? And you can't use these to unlock your own items, but rather you must wait until you get another in exchange from a friend?

Yeeesh ...

Yeeesh ...

That is correct...

I originally had well over a dozen friend tokens and none of them could be applied to purchasing items in the bonus gallery. In fact when I would go there it would show my friend tokens as Zero. But then I would go to the Friends Token selection and it would show my dozen tokens there. So..the ones I had aquired could only be Given away...and could not be used towards purchases in the galleries. However, I did get a friend token from another MP3 player in my friends list and that token does show up for being usable in purchasing items from the bonus gallery.

Well - now that the online enabled games are starting to trickle out, I guess I should start adding folks to my list (I was holding out until some online games got released)

And since I just picked up MP3:C last night....

my number: (diskoboy) 4675 0997 3186 5236

And same as DJbeatmongrel - if you add me, let me know and I'll add you right back (even if it's not just for Metroid - I have no one on my friends list yet).

"Is it possible to accidentally send a voucher to a wii friend who doesn't have MP3?"

Yes it is possible. In fact I have sent several out to those in my friends list who likely don't have MP3 yet, but I assume will at some point. When they do, they will have a friend token waiting for them from me.

Then again, I'm curious how often metroid updates this data, because I have several in my friend list that I know have been playing this game, yet they still show up as grey in my friends list on MP3?

Maybe they haven't gone into the Wiiconnect24 settings and set themselves to allow others to see when they have Metroid data?

I assume that's it. I've got the same problem, I've got people in my friend's list who I know are playing MP3 and they're grey :\

Who knows... I just hope they actually received the friend vouchers I sent.

I will check back in every so often so as to update my friend's list. I sent a few to diskoboy and c0ldb33r. I have plenty left, so add me and all that good stuff.

Just a heads up to everyone - be sure to set Metroid Prime 3 to update your wiiconnect24 settings, otherwise people won't be able to see that you're a Metroid Prime 3 owner (you'll show up as grey, not black) :)

I've added ten friends from this thread, but so far only one has added me back. I know you guys might not trust me because I'm a new account, but I'd be fine with sending my vouchers to you up-front before you send me any.

I don't have any friends with Wiis, let alone any friends with MP3. I'm OCD about unlocking everything in the game and this process of gathering Wii codes seems painful but necessary; especially since the Wii doesn't seem to have any mechanism to MEET strangers that may BECOME friends.

It might be nice to have a long friend list with Super Smash Bros: Brawl comes out, but I hope they don't restrict online play to your friends list... Because the only people on my list, are the people on this thread [and only one of them has friended me back.]

Have sent Coldbeer a token, I think I've got one or two more spare so far (just finished Norian) to pass along... and remember to activate your WiiConnect setting in the game ;)

Out of interest, cos my memory is shite here, what do you earn each of the colours for (red, yellow, green, blue)? And what can you spend the black ones on...?

I've had a bunch of player tokens from various people (here and elsewhere) so thanks... I'm probably earning enough red and blue tokens, but I need more yellow (only got two so far). How can I earn some more of those? Are those for the "stylish kills"? Need some strategy (currently doing Bryyo).

segagamer4life
09-05-2007, 10:00 AM
Stupid Question, but when you trade an item, is it permanently gone to the other person, or is there "unlimited" trading, I ask because I haven't played this enough yet, and I don't want to be "out of luck" when it comes to tokens, if I wait too long, also what do the tokens unlock?

Mayhem
09-05-2007, 11:13 AM
There are red, blue, gold and green tokens in the game. They are used to buy the unlockable content in the "Extras" section, ranging from concept art, music and weird things like a Mii bobblehead.

I actually didn't realise the game told you itself what you get each token for until this afternoon, if you look in the status screen (1). Red is usually for scanning enemies, blue is for scanning lore, gold is for completing certain objectives and green are the friends tokens. You have to be given these by other people. Likewise you can give out the ones you earn (generally so far I think I've only earnt mine from number of kills and finding one shortcut).

Can you give out ones you receive from other players?

For instance, I've received a number of friend vouchers (like 6). When it asks how many I'd like to convert to friend tickets, I say 0, so I should still have all 6 I've received, but when I try to give more to friends, I can't give those I've received. wth?

Mayhem
09-05-2007, 03:38 PM
Yeah I'm not sure about the point in asking if you want to convert them or not. I'll ask around...

On a completely different note, if any of you have US Mario Strikers Charged codes, please PM me if you wouldn't mind a game. The stupid codes are region encoded, so I can't play any of my friends with it in the UK who own the PAL version instead!

But yeah I hope THAT silly rule is removed for Smash Bros Brawl as I want to start kicking arse all around the world...

This was one of the best games I have played in recent memory. The original Metroid Prime is ofter considered one of the best games ever. I don't know if I agree with that, but I think this was better than the original.

djbeatmongrel, I completely understand where you are coming from with that. I never knew of this site before now, and intend to check it out. Just between school and stuff I don't often get to just surf the web (or play MP3 much either). I also wouldn't expect anyone to send me one unless I sent to them, sort of just trading, as I have few real life friends, and none into Wii. Also, I tend to lurk forums a while before ever joining/posting.

I've also tried to find someway to extract the screenshots from Prime 3. But they are stored on the Wii's internal memory and in a place that doesn't appear in the memory management area. Probably the same place where other messages and the daily logs are stored that you can't delete or access either. And yes, when you try and send a screengrab to a person listed as an email only, a message comes up telling you that you can only send the message to another Wii and not an email.

I really don't understand why Nintendo would do this...have you seen the pics that are taken?! Seriously, they look like crap when blow up full screen. Heavily compressed with artifacting everywhere. I think they are also saved in a much lower resolution than I'm playing the game at. Cause I know that the shots I took looked much better in game when I took them then what they actually ended up looking like...
