I just found this ROM. Never heard of this game before. Is it another RPG, and is it worth keeping and playing?

I got that game for free when I baught FFIII new. They put em together to get people to buy more FF I guess.
It took me 8-10 hours to finish it, the puzzles are really easy.. I would say it's squaresofts worst RPG.. but I'm sure there are worse that I haven't played from Square.

Indeed... The story goes that Square wanted to do something to introduce RPGs to North America, and so put together an accordingly simplistic game.
Naturally, when the Japanese Square fans found out about this, demand was sufficient that Square released it in Japan as Final Fantasy USA, which must surely reflect badly...
(Incidently, Final Fantasy Adventure/Seiken Denetsu for Game Boy was also known as Final Fantasy Mystic Quest in Europe.)

Think of FFMQ as a beginner's RPG game. It's very simple and probably won't suit a die hard RPG fans but for those with little or no RPG experience, FFMQ might be OK.

I think a good intro RPG is Final Fantasy 10! That was my first, and I liked how it held your hand and explained all the different attacks and whan/where to use them.
Only complaint is that FF10 might have been *too* easy. I managed to get all the way to Zanarkand before losing a battle.

P.S. I played with FF: Mystic Quest this morning. I like that 3-D perspective during battles. And the ability to jump over obstacles. Nice touch for a simple S-NES game.

this is janemba...
hey now dont talk dirty about mystic quest...thats one of my favs. it might not be the longest or the hardest but it is becase of those reasons i liked it. i like rpgs but just if they r like that... IE evolution 1+2 and ff10 as opposed to the much harder and longer square rpgs... so what im saying is if its not short and fairly easy ill get burnt out on it and never beat it...BAH

Simple, but completely enjoyable. You can beat it in 15 hours max. You'll rarely see a RPG like this one. Good easy fun. Good to play after a game like FFT, which frustrates the hell out of me.

I may as well weigh in on this. As a young SNES owner and fan of Final Fantasy II, I eagerly rented FF: Mystic Quest and was soon disappointed by the general lack of story and the simplistic, repetitive combat. After about six hours of play, I grew intensely bored and decided to use a previous renter's saved game to finish the final hour or so of the quest. The ending was so weak that I was glad I hadn't wasted any more time on it.
Still, I'll give the game credit for actually letting the player see monsters before encountering them in combat -- a feature that even the most recent Final Fantasies have yet to adopt.

Yeah. if you like the geature about seeing the monsters before battle, you should check out Chrono Cross(PSX). And Chrono Trigger(SNES, Duh) might do this as well. im not sure.

Yes you can see the enemies in CHrono Trigger but not all. A few enemies are prescripted to appear before your party at certain points in the game time.

I bought Mystic Quest when it originally came out. I was young and inexperienced when it came to RPGs, so I found the game enjoyable. As I grew older, I became bored with the overall lack of polish the game was missing. It's not a horrible game, but it is insanely linear, and lacks any real story. If you're over 10, don't bother with this one.

This was the first RPG I ever played. It was and still is a favorite of mine. Its really good for beginner RPG gamers. It sounds like since you have never even heard of it you haven't played to many snes or nes rpgs. Play through it, its pretty fun.
