View Full Version : How I met Psycho Penguin

I saw the following post on Craigslist:
I have a Nintendo 64 with 3 games left - Gex 64, WWF No Mercy, Diddy Kong Racing. 1 controller, all wires.
I have a PSOne new style console with a bunch of games. Final Fantasy 7 and Guardian's Crusade disc only, the rest are complete.
- Star Ocean: 2nd Story
- Final Fantasy 9
- Castlevania Symphony of the Night
- Front Mission 3
- Final Fantasy Tactics
- Metal Gear Solid
- Final Fantasy Anthology
- Wild Arms
- Wild Arms 2
I sold my SNES but I still have these games for sale.
- Super Metroid
- Super Mario Kart
- Super Mario All Stars
- Donkey Kong Country
- Super Mario World
- Final Fantasy Mystic Quest
- Legend of Zelda: Link to a Past
- Breath of Fire
- Breath of Fire 2
- Super Castlevania 4
- Illusion of Gaia
These games are super fun and hard to find but I am a reasonable man and will negotitate. Email me for more details and a phone number if you are serious.
So I had a friend email him, SNES games were sold but he offered her $150 for the NES junk and PSX titles. She negotiated down to $100 for the PSX games only. We agreed to meet at a local Walgreens (because he didn't have a car), just him and the three of us (Me, my friend and her boyfriend.)
So anyway on the way there my friend tells me she found the guy's MySpace, username: Psycho Penguin. So I shout "Fuck it's the scammer!". Anyway we get there and lo and behold the 10 complete PSX RPGs turn into a collection of scratchy greatest hits that look like they were assaulted by a GameDoctor. Final Fantasy Anthologies was missing the manual, but the rest of the games were actually complete. Anyways, we left without buying anything. All in all the transaction was anticlimactic but I just thought it was a funny coincidence.

You should have beat him with a lead pipe.

Craigslist is fine. Plenty of good deals to be had.

To say he has ripped a bunch of people off is like calling the pope catholic.

Just as an add-on to this, I noticed his name come up in a wrestling video trading board as a bad trader who has ripped off a bunch of folks there in recent months. I pointed them to the infamous thread on this board. Seems like he's experienced in various fields of thievery...

Speaking of wrestling, you should've RKO'd the joker. Get it on tape and send it to everyone he's ripped off.

I think several people here would pay to see that.

How much money? lol Wouldn't it be easier to just pursue criminal charges than to send someone to have a "talk" with him? Seriously. Since there is now evidence he still has the games that is mail fraud.

From the sounds of the encounter, it appears he actually "owns" the games. That is just one step up from some of the scammers here (i.e. biggeorgejohnson) who actually listed games for sale that they never even owned.
We agreed to meet at a local Walgreens (because he didn't have a car)..........
Didn't (or doesn't) have a car. LOL. That's classic.
Chunk from The Goonies would make a super scammer. I can see a PM from him now.
"Uh you see I was gonna ship your games 2 weeks ago but I couldn't because I don't have a car and then I was gonna ship your games last week because someone was gonna give me a ride to the post office but I spilled Rocky Road Ice Cream all over some of them and I still haven't found the other games in your order either and then I did find them and was gonna ship them today but I spent my entire allowance at the arcade and on comic books and my mom says I can't have anymore spending money for another week and I own Mouth 10 bucks too for cotton candy so I gave him some of it from the money you paid me for the games then I don't know when I'm gonna ship your games out because I don't have any money left to pay for shipping with but I'm really sorry."

I'd give $10 for a "ringside" seat. Really, just supply time and place. I'll be indistinguishable from a "normal" passerby. Until you need a witness to say, "he started it!"
Speaking of "he", is he still a minor?

For what it is worth if he met once he would meet again. He needs his comeuppance.

Profile now says he is single, some posters here will recall he was engaged. Looks like his fiancee who came up a few times on the site kicked him to the curb. Probably got tired of him scamming on the internet, not having a car and bad sex.

When the interweb runs fairly dry for him due to previous offenses, or at least proves tougher than he wants, he'll start meeting ppl via that Craigslist ad. He'll keep meeting people. If I lived close, I'd meet and beat him.
However, as fun as the thought is, it just isn't worth the cost of the plane ticket to beat on a guy who's already a deadbeat loser chump nobody.

If you want Psycho Penguin's address to pursue criminal charges, apparently NintendoHaven knows it.

I think I just ran into ol' PP on another gaming website's forums, but you have to be logged in to be able to view the messages. He's going under the name Psycho_Penquin there, and I'm going to start cruising the "hidden" buy/sell boards and see if I can track him down to learn if he's taken his scamming THERE, as well.

****! Yep, that's him. Well, I may end up banned on that particular website for "outing" a scammer, but it's the right thing to do.

Which one is it, per chance? He's been banned from just about every gaming site out there.

GameFAQs, the place with the ludicrous moderation policies and the equally-ludicrous policy of allowing repeat offenders hundreds of chances to "redeem" themselves. I've been there for going on seven years and I've even used some of Penguin's FAQs in my own endeavors, but I figured it was him when he stated he didn't actually write something in an FAQ that he actually DID.
Anyway, I'm hoping at least some of the people are spreading the word now, so maybe he'll just disappear and go infest some other website.
Oh, and for the record, I would hope I'm not perceived as one of "those GameFAQs kiddies" now. ;)
