It's that much at my local Circuit City, should I buy it?

If you have an okay computer, get it for that platform. I think it's only $10 at CC this week. I have this for both the xbox and pc, but I haven't tried the xbox version. If I remember right, HL2 for the xbox is single player only.
To be honest though, I would wait for the Orange box to come out. That includes HL2, Ep. 1 and 2, Team Fortress 2, and Portal. You get all those games and can play the mods.

Well, you can't play the mods if you're on a 360. It's coming out on that too. :)
I'm waiting until Orange Box gets released. I never bought HL2, but the package is too tempting to pass up!

It's okay on the Xbox, and under $10 isn't a bad price, at all. But there are a hellaciously long load times, and of course, the graphics took a major hit...
I'd stick to the PC version. Or wait and get the Orange Box.

definitely not, just wait for it to come out on 360!

The Xbox port is fairly good. There's some framerate issues and the load times are more frequent, but I wouldn't say that they're terrible. When I first played Half Life 2, I was on an Athlon 2500 w/ 1gb of PC2700 ram and the load times were far, far, far worse (something like a minute just to load up the main menu when starting the game, for instance).
With the drawbacks (framerate hits, lower resolution than what you'd get on your PC, no mouse + keyboard) come a couple of bonuses. The biggest bonus is that the auto aim cone is fairly generous while in the vehicles, so Water Hazard becomes a much faster paced (and imo, enjoyable) level.
If you've got a pimpin' PC from the last 2 years, then you may as well just get the PC version, though. It's a shame most Xbox owners were too busy fapping over their half assed Halo sequel to bother seeing what a real FPS was :)

Thanks for the reply. This one has been sitting in my Xbox backlog for a few months now, andI think that I will shuffle it to the top. Been on a bit of a FPS kick lately. Just beat Area 51, and am playing Red Faction right now.
No multiplayer is not much of a problem, as I prefer single player campaigns anyway.

If you've got a 360 or a PS3, just wait for the Orange Box. I played through HL2 for the bawks 1 last year. It was great, but I could never see myself playing through it again right now when the Orange Box is right around the corner.

I'd buy it for $6.99, but definitely not $7.50.

I'm in pretty much the same boat. Well done multiplayer rarely bails out a completely mediocre single player experience for me (Hi, Halo 2!) and I absolutely love a solid single player FPS (hi, Chronicles of Riddick and Half Life 2!).
Red Faction wasn't too bad at all, but the sequel is a massive mountain of shit that needs to be played just so you can establish a firm baseline of what constitutes a shitty single player FPS. It manages to get pretty much *everything* wrong, which is actually kind of impressive in its own little way.
I still need to fire up Area 51. A few weeks ago I nearly popped it into the Xbox but then I got caught up in a Castlevania kick that I'm slowly wrapping up (trying to finish off Aria of Sorrow this weekend).

Well... the only problem I had with Half-Life 2, is there isn't a really immediate replay value (for the XBOX)... and if yo're like me, who doesn't have a gaming PC and doesn't have a 360... that 7.50 is very well spent. I recently rebought it, because I know I'll want to play it again in the future. Excellent story, no dumb cinematics to take you out of the game, and good graphics (by XBOX standards)- this should be a no brainer for the money. The load times do kinda suck, and even though I'm an impatient person they didn't bother me too much. The excellent story and great gameplay are enough to forgive this version's shortcomings.

It's $10! Is it really going to "break" your budget either way? Just buy it already.....
What's the worst that could happen?
You have another Xbox game in your collection?
It is a cool game!

You know I had to edit that proceeding post almost three times before getting it right! I have to stop posting here when I just get up in the morning, especially on a holiday!
Anyway, I like Half-Life 2, and for $10, there are a lot worse things you could buy!
Enough said by me, so I'll "shut up" now!

What are the best HL2 mods? I've heard about Gary's Mod and Dystopia a lot.

Yeah I know, it's just I hate having two copies of the same game like that. :P

Wait... you already own the game?
I think he means the computer version, and now the Xbox version....
not two Xbox versions...
at least I hope not!
Then again, he is asking for help over how to spend $7.50!
LOL
