Wow, that is a fucking hard question. Going to take some serious thought. They're all precious to me and I wouldn't want to give any of them up, but if it had to be done...
I guess I would hold on to my Genesis, since it was my first system I ever owned or played, and has most of my favorites on it. That's quality right thurr.

I'm going to cheat a little and say PS3, because with the library of ps2 and psx games it can play you've got great games from arcades, to some SNES games, on up to current stuff. And while it would be cheating even more, I'm sure various emulators are in the works if not out there already.
If you were to limit to just games made for the given system, well, then my head would just explode.

Ruling out emulation, I`d choose a Sega Genesis

Ha, a no-brainer for me.... SNES. Hands down. The runner-up, Saturn, is in a distant distant DISTANT second.

I'd take my PC without a second thought even if emulation didn't exist. Over the years all of my favorite games have been PC games.

It's be tough giving up my PS2 and SNES, but I have to give the edge to R-Zone.

This is a tough question. Playstation 3 makes the most sense in terms of games to play but I dunno I might say Dreamcast or saturn. Thank god I'll never have to choose and havent had to

Playstation 3, hands down. I'm sure the PS3 will pick up, but even if it doesn't, I still have two great libraries.

I would likely go with the Genesis at this point. A big library of titles that have good staying power (Contra HC, Gunstar Heroes, Sonic, Rocket Knight Adventures to name a few).
If not that, I would consider Xbox, SNES, Saturn, and NES in that order.

Without the benefit of emulation and/or "Compiler/Anthology" packs for the PS2, then it be hands down the SEGA MEGA DRIVE. Best damn system ever made despite it's lack of colours compared to the Super Famicom or Neo:Geo. But overall "with" emulation and/or packs, then I'd have to say a modded Playstation 2 console, that way I could play all of the cool shit I can't live without as well as the good old days.

I'm pretty much there with you. So many great games of the past to present to play and such a variety too, but it's not a console. Therefore (second up) it would be the Saturn if it's setup to accept imports and a pretty close match behind is the 5200. It begins to get very difficult after that since there are so many games I enjoy from every system I own.

Wow, not one vote so far for anything pre-Genesis...
My vote's for the 2600. It's gotten me through nearly 30 years of my life happy...no reason to think it won't get me through another 30.

One system and all of its games.
SNES

It's between the NES and SNES for me. But in the end, I'd probably go with SNES. I haven't gotten into any newer consoles, and SNES has so many great games.

Do handhelds count as consoles for the purposes of this thread?
If so, I'd have to say the DS.
Real consoles are better for multiplayer, but for single player, I definitely findthat I prefer using handhelds and the DS is definitely an all time great already, in my mind. Especially with the GBA library included as well.
If backwards compatibility doesn't count as some other people have suggested, then it would be a closer call between the DS and the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast might win out, not sure.
Emulation is also pretty good on the DS, so if that counts, it's an even easier decision. In fact, it's a decision that I've pretty much already made. I've sold off most of my other systems aside from my Dreamcast and Colecovision and I keep those in milk crates in my closet unless someone's over to play them, so all I reall play any more is my DS.
...word is bondage...

Japanese or Unversal Modded PS3 for sure
if no backwards compatibility allowed, PS2 followed by Neo Geo

With BC, yes, the PS3 is the obvious choice for me. Barring that, either the PS1 or the SNES. Of course, I'm on something of an RPG stint right now, so that's affecting my choice.

A LaserActive with both modules.

on one hand I'd say the Super NES as its what I have had most experience with and played a lot of games so I know theres a lot of good ones. But on the other hand I might get bored quicker than if I had a system which I hadn't played any games for but has a huge good library like the Amiga 500.

Damn, hard question right there. PS3 would be obvious for the reasons given above, but Wii & the virtual console also rank highly on that regard.
That aside though, on the strength of one systems library alone and ignoring BC... Dreamcast.

The only console I would own would be A PlayStation 2, because of the compilations of arcade games released. Otherwise, I would own a ColecoVision, because that system had the technology ahead of it's time with its game selections, and I spent my childhood playing the ColecoVision.

Can't believe nobody's said Wii! Eventually the VC will provide backwards compatibility for NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, and TG (at least).
I would choose the PS2 because it can play two huge game catalogs.

2600 - My first, my most fave and the largest part of my collection. Thanks to emulation, if I had to dump it all save the 2600 tomorrow I could easily live the rest of my life with that.

Hmm, tough question indeed. Would this one system include ALL the games released or just the game in your collection? Regardless, my choices are as follows:
For nostalgia, I would choose the Sega Genesis.
For more practical reasons (huge library, excellent multiplayer, availability), I would pick the Playstation 2.

I'm going to go with my PSP with OE/MM firmware - I need a handheld, and the PSOne compatibility and other EMUs continue to improve on the PSP... Now that the Slim will have TV out capability, it's got everything I'd ever need - I can even hop online for a round of SOCOM when I'm feeling social :)

Now this is a great question! Are you asking about any system ever made?
Ah, it would be between these three systems (and that is the best I can do, is narrow it down to three systems):
Playstation 2
Turbo Grafx/Duo
Neo Geo AES
That answer your question?
I know you said one, but that is way too difficult!
Nescollector

Nes all the way. Second would be a tough choice between Genesis and the Snes.

Despite my Castlevania fandom, for me the most practical choice would be my Neo AES system. Its one of the few systems Ive had within the last 5-6 years where I can play games for an hour or more on end and not get bored. NES/Genesis/SNES is good for 5-10 minutes, nowadays and I know all of my CV games in and out.

Easy. Atari 8-bit. I owned an Atari 400 before I owned a VCS. Although some of my favorite games are on the VCS, I still love playing games on the old 8-bit.

09-03-2007, 04:02 PM
Wow, what a tough ass question. Well, I'd have to say my Xbox. Not only do I have tons of great games for it, but I also get to play them online with people from all over the world, and that keeps things from getting boring. My PS1 would be a very close second and bringing up the rear in third would be my NES.

I think I'd stick with my Xbox since it has 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA, PSX, and a few other emulators on it ...

Thats a brain teaser of a question. For me its a toss up between the Sega Genesis and the Sony Playstation 3. My reason for the Genesis would be because I've spent so much time with it/playing it, also the fact that I only need 30-some-odd titles to have a complete collection. So I would have a great library to choose from. My reason for the PS3 is simple, two words, backward compatible which also means a huge library.

Dreamcast with official Arcade stick and all the shooters and fighting games.
RegSNES
09-03-2007, 08:19 PM
Oh man. Whew, boy. Tough choice. But if I could only pick one, I'd go with my SNES. System still hosts some of the best music IMO and the games are second to none.

I am going to say PS1. That system got me through some tough while me and my wife were just getting started. We played together and I like to watch her play games now and every now and then I will play a game with her. I get more of a kick in the "hunt". In a close second is my beloved Neo Geo. :D

09-03-2007, 08:53 PM
I would have to say the Dreamcast...mainly due to all of the great emulators. You can play many systems alone with just that one (SMS, GG, Amiga, Gameboy, C64, Atari 800, 2600...etc etc).
But, if that is unfair to the thread, I would then pick the Genesis. So many games, so many I love. Can we add the power base converter to that one? :)

I'd probably take them in this order........
1. Sega Genesis (especially if you allow me to take my 32X & CD add-ons which I own)
2. XBox
3. Atari 7800 (which I do not own)
4. Gameboy Advance SP II (I love Gameboy)
So yeah, I guess I'll say Genesis.

Nes...Blue Marlin, Dragon Warrior, Spot, Mega Man 2, Milons Secret Castle, Mario 3 and I'm good

NES would be my first choice (so many classic games I love to replay), and Nintendo 64 would probably be my second choice (for the Zelda games and Rare's shooters).

09-04-2007, 12:23 AM
I've narrowed it down to three:
SNES: it has great games and the Super Game Boy...huge library!
GameCube: it has a bunch of great games, plus the Legend of Zelda bonus discs and the Game Boy Player...huge library!
Wii: it has good new games, plus all of the Virtual Console games (NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, TurboGrafx-16, and Neo-Geo)...huge library!

I have to agree with some others and would choose a PS2 for the huge library. Gosh that system was rad.

Its a close call between the Snes and PS2.
The PS2 has the GAMES with both the PSone and PS2 library no question.
Hell I would be probably be fine with just a Turboduo and All of my favorite Turbographix games to be honest.
Wraith Storm
09-04-2007, 06:24 AM
Hmmm... This is no easy question. With no Turbo Duo I would be without the deffinitive versions of Valis 1-4, Ys 1-4 and a slew of amazing Shmups. Without my Sega Saturn I would be without a way to play, in my opinion, some of the greatest games ever made. With no Dreamcast I would no longer have my Sega Arcade perfect ports. And no Playstation 1 or 2 means my selection of RPGs would shrink about 85 percent. But if I could only play 1system it would come down to which has the best replay value. No games hold the replay value for me like 8/16 bit games do. So it would have to be either the NES or The Sega Genesis/Sega CD. Both systems were and still are incredible with a huge selection of varied games.

I think I would have to go with my Super NES. I could play that system for days without getting bored back in the day. Zelda, Mario, Metroid, Mega Man, Bomberman, Contra, Gradius are key franchises on the system. Add in games that I loved back in the day like ActRaiser, Chrone Trigger, and Earthbound and games I have yet to play but always wanted like Final Fantasy III
and I think I'll be in pretty good shape.
Mario Paint and NBA Jam can kill some time as well.

A No-Brainer for me - COLECOVISION! Although, I have yet to get one, this is easily my most desired item to acquire...all my gaming memories of childhood begin with the Atari 2600 but the most prevalent are those of late Friday nights and long Saturday afternoons in front of the likes of Mouse Trap, Pepper II, Mr. Do!, Frenzy, and Cosmic Avenger!
