I'm looking at some Saturn sticks to play shmups, fighters and arcade ports and this one keeps popping up (Hori being usually good quality stuff). Before I go ahead and buy one I thought I'd ask for some opinions about it or even other, perhaps better options. I can grab a CIB new one for about $45... so, is it worthwhile at that price? Or is there greener pastures to graze @ $45?

I searched google already and all I got was a list of Saturn controllers where it was included in the list and nothing more.

It's a good stick... It's the same stick as the Hori Fighter Stick PS...

If your game requires only three buttons however I would suggest the VF Real Arcade Hori stick... it looks like this:

Just my two cents though...

IMO the buttons/stick are of higher quality on the Real Arcade VF (it is the same stick pretty much as the Tekken 3 Hori for PS and the T4/SC2 arcade stick for PS2)...

It's junk, Get a MAS Pro or an XArcade and use an adapter.

If you're really serious I'd get something custom with Seimitsu or Sanwa parts. There's a few peoples on this vast interweb that make some absolutely beautiful custom sticks. Or you could take an existing stick and replace the stock parts with decent ones. I used to have a Saturn Virtua Stick, the white Japanese one (HSS-0136 iirc), and that'd be a decen stick to mod.

The blank XArcade base with custom parts sounds good. Bigger investment on the front end but I can eat that up and then some with the system adapters. It would be nice to finally have a stick without the damn microswitches and a cluncky assed joystick. With MarkMan's recommendation I think I could see spending $20-$25 for one (the VF stick seems a perfect fit for VF2)... point is, I can wait.

I guess I'll side with patience for now and work tward a better overall solution. Thanks for the input folks. Much appreciated. :)

I haven't used the Hori stick but I do own a white Virtua Stick with another on the way. While I'm no expect on arcade sticks by any means, I find it to feel nice although it gets dirty rather easy.

I'm sure people who take arcade sticks more seriously will say otherwise but I like it.

It seems as though you're leaning into the custom direction, which is what I'd suggest unless one of those sticks just appears at the right time.
