The Third Semi-Annual DP@CP '07 takes place October 20th, 2007 at Cedar Point, Sandusky OH.

Be prepared to ride Millennium Force, Maverick, Magnum XL, Blue Streak, Mean Streak, and whatever else we can get on. We'll also spend a good deal of time in their arcade(s), so bring the spare change.

The park opens at noon. We'll meet at the Space Needle(the big blue thing, can't miss it) between 12:30-1:00.

Hope to see you there!

If I were closer, it would be on, eventhough I've already been there once this year. CP has one of the best collection of coasters. Top Thrill is still better then the taller Kingda Ka because it has no over the shoulder restraints. And the Classic Arcade is massive.

I was thinking about posting this.

With the dates you posted, I'd go for 10/13, as it gives more time for planning.

10/20 isn't a bad choice, either, as Halloweekends go up until the last Saturday of the month.

We need to get Perkar in here, see what's up with him.

I was thinking a weekend not so close to the end of season because last time there was a TON of people there and the wait lines were WAY TOO LONG.

I'd also consider King's Island if more people could attend! I haven't been there in a couple years(since last time with Oobgarm and a couple other folks from DP)

I figure if we're doing a park thing, it's gotta be Cedar Point.

KI just isn't worth the trip or a single day entrance fee, IMO. The only way to go there is with a season pass.

There's a reason it's called the "Legendary" arcade at cedar point in discussions. And I wanna fucking see it. I want to go this time. No screwing around. I wanna go to ohio. I'll see if I can actually drag Kamino along this time as well.

Achi and I were going out to Michigan late September/early October and I don't see why we couldn't arrange to meet up with you guys midway or so.

Oobies, I will call you tomorrow!

I've entertained the notion of going back to Cedar Point this year as well. I'm going to be in Michigan on the 28th and possibly the 29th, but I'm not opposed to making a return trip up north in mid October. As Wizdawg said, we have to do this right, because the lines last year were hellish. However, we discovered the principles and mechanics behind PPH while in one of said lines, so it was worth it.

I already have a trip planned there for the 6th of october if anyone wants to meet up...

At Cedar Point in OHIO, Oct. 6th?

I want to go, but the Oobies says that October 6th is too early.

I missed last year's event, so I really want to go. I like amusement parks when it isn't 90 degrees outside.

The way it's almost sounding is that there ought to be 2 meet ups. One at CP, another near michigan.

Truthfully, I'd rather go later in october, like the 20th being the earliest.

Also, I'd like to hit up Dave and Busters, like the night before or the night of. The whole trip means I have to stay the weekend. I wanna party hard and play/get some games.

ProgrammingAce

If you're going to do dave and busters, you probably want to hit Sega's GameWorks instead... They just installed that new outrun linked arcade thing.

Tricia and I are game. Those who need a place to crash and/or want to stay for the weekend know where the drinking will be. Even if I have to do it by myself. I said booze. 20th would be better for us.

Here it is. Clear the date on your calendar.

Be prepared to ride Millennium Force, Maverick, Magnum XL, and whatever else we can get on. And bring money for the arcade, too. Classic machines are plentiful!

We'll meet at the Space Needle at 12:30.

It's also good to bring a cell phone if you have one in case everyone separates, especially since some folks aren't into the big coasters.

You might be a little SOL as far as beer goes. There's a pub in the park, but I didn't go in last year to see what they had to drink. There are a few beer vendors at the park, but you're looking at like $4 or $5 for a 16oz. cup of Budweiser.

Sparks tastes like sweet tarts. Just ask Perkar. I myself like it, but, this coming from a man who likes Zima.

Anyhow, yeah beer is a bit pricey. It would be cool to see someone puke all over while at the top of the corkscrew though. Barf!

does anyone know if CP checks bags??? If not, and a lot of amusement parks don't, you can solve the alcohol problem with a 2-litre bottle of (insert liquor here) + (insert mixer here).
I'll probably be there. I'll probably be fucked up when i get there. If i'm tripping balls, and i should be if things go the way they are planned - it should be a real good time.
Matt, I need to send you a pm re: When/where to meet up. I can probably meet you in milwaukee, since my area is a *SEVERE* Detour. and we're SO NOT TAKING THE DAN RYAN THIS TIME. FUCK 94!!!!

Carey85

You should take the Skyway, pull over when you get to the highest point on the bridge, get out of the car and shit into the bay. That would be awesome.

MASTERWEEDO
10-07-2007, 09:03 PM
I always took the Skyway when I left Chicago. Trippin at CP sounds kinda fun, I might have to try it. I should be able to get the "camel pack" past security, it straps to your back and has a hose to drink, holds 6 10 oz or 4 16 oz.

According to weather.com, it looks like a 40% chance of rain that day. Basically rain Thursday through Saturday.

Let's hope we get some dry time, as a bulk of the rides will close if it's raining.

Carey85
10-16-2007, 05:40 PM
That's pretty weak sauce. However, I'm not entirely opposed to drinking and playing Chase H.Q. in the arcade...

Believe me a little rain would be nice to keep the crowds down a bit. Less time waiting in line=more time riding coasters. Which one should we hit first? Maverick?

DP@CP was a good time for all. Once we all finally met up, myself, Eternal Tune, Wizdawg(and his friend), Carey85, Spoon(with Tricia), and Matt-El had a great time.

Magnum XL was the first coaster ridden, and it didn't disappoint. Lots of air time. The line for it moved quickly and there was nary a complaint about the wait time.

We decided afterward that we needed food, and the always-excellent all beef hot dog stand was there to fill the need. We then headed over to the arcade to let the food settle.

It was at this point Wizdawg found us, roughly around 5 o'clock or so.

Sadly, the wait for Millennium Force was unbelievably long(over 2 hours), so we skipped it and went over to Gemini. For a wood coaster, this one was surprisingly smooth and had a wicked helix at the end. The line was quick on this ride as well, but the presence of some overly rowdy folks made us want the line to go as quickly as possible.

At one point somwhere during this time, a return trip to the arcade was made, and an excellent time was had playing with the old vintage animatronic machines, as well as the aforementioned 'modifying' of the Gorf machine.

The last coaster we were able to ride was the Iron Dragon. A suspended coaster, this one builds up for some fun twists and turns near the end, above a misty pond.

The final attraction was a trip through a vampire-themed haunted house. Far and away, it was the best thing about the trip. It was set up in such a fashion that the spooks could hide in dark corners or around props, and they did a good job of staying hidden until the time was right. But the tunnel near the end was awesome. It was a cylindrical tunnel where the room rotates around you, which was simply mind-bending. I think the best scare didn't come from the folks running the house, though. (Right, guys?) LOL 'BOB SAGET' became a worthy quote, as it was used instead of the traditional vulgarities. I'm sure everyone was wondering why we were yelling about Danny Tanner.

I guess, if I have to nitpick, I have a couple quibbles, most likely shared by everyone else.

-The arcade wasn't as cool as I remembered it being. Many of the older machines were out of service or had bad coin mechs. Most disappointing(personally) was the non-functioning status of Robotron for the second year in a row.

-Since the weather was mild, the park drew a HUGE crowd. Getting in the park in a timely fashion and exiting the parking lot was very time consuming and not an easy task.

I insist that someone tells me exactly one month before the next event when the next event will be held, and where everyone meets. Of all the gaming events in the country, a gaming event with rollercoasters seems "wrong" when I don't attend. Gotta go with my gut. PM me in 2008, someone, please.

Glad you all had fun. Certainly sounds like fun.
