A four player online/offline Diablo clone FPS set in a futuristic Mad Max world with randomly generated terrain and over 500,000 unique items, um, yeah i'm buying this game on concept alone.

Quotes from article:

Basically, one player will start up a game and the remianing players will visit that world with their persistent characters. All loot and leveling will be reflected when the visiting characters returns to their own game

As you head out to the omnious canyons, the game generates a unique instance for the road ahead. While the general path remains consistent, things like barriers, caves, bunkers, towers, enemies, and explosive cacti will be different every time you return. Sometimes there will be a cave to explore. Other times it'll simply be a blank wall. All of this occurs with absolutely no loading whatsoever. In fact, players will never see a single load screen once they've entered the game.

Roland and Mordecai hop in a desert buggy and take off in the direction of the tracking signal. Upon entering a vehicle, the view pulls out to third-person and you can decide whether to man the wheel or turret while leaving the other role to the AI or a human player. Unlike most FPSs, you're not shoehorned into being the driver all of the time. Gearbox is putting special focus on properly fuctioning driving AI. "The AI actually understands the terrain that it's driving on as well what type of things equal cool", says Hurley.

Gearbox has enlisted famous concept artist Ron Cobb, who's resume includes designs for Star Wars, Alien, Raiders of the Lost Ark, and Conan the Barbarian.

I gotta say as soon as I saw the cover I was like "no way", this game sounds too good to be true, but man 10 pages of text and pics and this is the best sounding game in ages.

You should see the bosses, enemies, and the amount of detail put into the weaponry, looks like someone is finally making "the game".

It did lok interesting. I was more impressed with the cover. All the magazines have been placing this winter's blockbuster titles on the covers and in their main sections. It's good to start hearing about what we will be playing next year or later).

I was foaming at the mouth about this game, and have recently dropped Mass Effect as one of the games I am most looking forward to, and put this one in my list. I just hope is has some substantial game play to let it compete with the games coming out now a days, because after Diablo came out, all games just like that were just diablo clones and for the most part, boring, or became so, quick. Heres to hoping Gearbox has a hit! ::Cheers::

Mega bump!

Did anyone pick this up? I'm curious about it, but my instinct is telling me it's not going to be great. I don't like the art style, and I'm worried it's just a cheap Fallout knock-off. So anyone played it?

Not yet but I plan on trying to find a rental tomorrow, sene nothing but 8.5 and 9 so far for reviews, 4 player coop on and offline, lots of replayability. and is being a fallout clone a bad thing?

my roommate picked this up today. we played about an hour before she had to leave.

initial impressions: the screen's a little crowded on splitscreen, and the aiming takes a little getting used to, but this is a blast so far. definitely feeling the diablo kill/loot addiction coming into play. btw i'm playing a berseker and she a hunter.

she's back, awesome! back to borderlands!

This game is absolutely fantastic! The single-player is solid... the multi-player experience phenomenal. This is a game for loot whores. If you liked D2 and love FPS games, this is for you.

Actually be careful, that article I was posting from was pretty old and alot of changes were made since then. Glad to hear people are liking it, but honestly the game doesn't seem to have turned out 100% what it was supposed to be and I believe that 4 player offline co-op is one of the things that was scraped if i'm not mistaken.

I'm too busy enjoying Demon's Souls atm to get into this and honestly after playing the Lost Planet 2 demo, that game feels more like what I expected out of this game. Though it sounds fun, not exactly what I expected, course I haven't played it but i've seen it in action.

my friend and i got our characters to lvl10 last night. the game's got a fair amount of grindiness to it so far, but the humor, the loot, and the 'just one more quest' addictiveness make up for that.

i told my friend i needed to quit about 10:45. didn't actually turn off the xbox til after midnight.

Can you make your own character, or are you bound to the presets? I've been intrigued since I heard they changed the art style, and it's starting to sound like PSO with guns and vehicles (I have yet to play Diablo). How's the shooting, is it console-friendly or should I just wait for the PC version?

You can't make your own character. All you can do is change the color of your hair and clothes. The shooting is quite console-friendly. I had fun playing this yesterday with some buddies. I think the map could've been better, that's the only quibble I have with the game thus far. I also noticed in a dungeon if you move through it and take out some enemies, and take too long moving through the map the enemies will respawn.

Great game so far, best served co-op.

I'm seriously thinking about picking this up soon, but I'm torn on platform. I'm incredibly anal about console shooters, but I'm getting a different vibe on this one. Can anybody with the PS3 version say how the online is? Or, is it time for me to give in and finally pay for Xbox Live?

If you already have friends online playing the game, get it on whichever platform they're playing on. Despite my current fixation on the ps3, my friends are all on the 360, so that's the version I went with. That said, there are some issues with the ps3 version right now, but they will probably be patched soon enough.

Wow, I didn't even know Gearbox was still around. Mega props to them for getting out from under VALVe XD

Will have to check this one out...I might even get it fairly soon.

Is this worth bothering with if you don't play online or multiplayer at all? It looks ok...but....

Yes its worth getting, I rented it for a week to test things out and played about an hour or so with a friend, then played a bunch offline, but I can say it is definitely a challenge, there are no difficulty settings.

2 years is about par for the course with game development, no? In fact, it seems a little on the short side considering how long some games stay in development.

Yeah it also didn't live up to half of what it was supposed to be yet people still seem to love it so who cares.

I might be taking advantage of the Steam preorder four-pack, if my friends can make a decision for once. It would only be $34 each.

My friends and I are experiencing the joys of a Steam game launch. Lots of problems with decrypting pre-load files, loading up the game, etc. I'm in right now and it looks great.

Can someone tell me why they still pre-render cinematics? The game looks better than the cinematics! Bink Video is also has notoriously bad vertical sync, lots of tearing on every frame.

Damn got this today but I am deep in a coop campaign of Saints Row 2 with my buddy and I cant skip that.

How does the online component treat those of you that got it for the PC?

Finished the achievements off last night as well as a second playthrough. I won't ruin anything but at least there is incentive to continue playing around after you reach the level cap. I love the thrill of MAYBE finding orange weapons.

I'm always sad to nearly be done with a game this good, with a game that grabs me such and doesn't let go until it's over (twice, in this case). I've never been glued to a game like this since Fallout 3... and considering my gaming history this last year that's a good thing. Potential game of the year for me based on the fun and experience alone, but we'll see come January 2010 when the year is over.

I don't know how long I've put into the game, but I would probably guess 40 - 50 hours easily.

This is REALLY a wonderful game. It feels like a tribute to FPS, being adaptable to however you want to play it. I'm playing a Berserker and I finally found a rocket launcher, and now I'm jumping around and blowing up skags. Sniping is fun too, so I'm kinda torn on how I want to build my character.

I've played the game on two systems so far. It runs like a dream at 60-80 fps on my main rig (Phenom II X3 710, 4gb DDR2, Radeon 4850, 1440x900), but it's 10-15 fps on my old system (Core 2 Duo E4700, 2gb DDR2, Radeon X1800GTO, 1280x1024). I think it's seriously video card dependent, if that helps anyone.

I've only played online with two of my friends so far, but one of them said he couldn't get into ANY other online games.

I just finished my first playthrough with some friends, and damn was it fun. That final boss fight didn't disappoint, as it made our party run out of ammo quickly and wonder how to put this sucker down for the count. I know there will be some DLC down the road, and I look forward to a certain claptrap making an appearance.

Got this game a few days ago and been having a lot of fun. Haven't played co-op yet, but I heard that's the best part. Hopefully soon. I'm not a big FPS shooter fan, so I never play a lot of them so I suck pretty bad. If anyone has PC version my GameSpy ID is "Xizid".

I just got back from my friend's house. We played a LAN game and it was great. The in-game voice chat still sucks, so we just yelled at each other across the house. We're doing the same thing again tomorrow, and I'm going to bring my actual PC to play on. Tonight I played on my laptop in 640x400.

I've been playing my berserker a lot, but I was an idiot this morning and forgot to copy my character save to my laptop, so I made a phasewalker tonight. I got to lv12 or so, but I like berserker better.
