View Full Version : Kirby Air Ride is getting pricier
DigitalSpace

This game used to go for $20 new, and now GameStop is charging $25 used for it. In fact, it seems like everybody is charging $20 or more for used copies. Player's Choice and non-Player's Choice copies. At least GameCrazy still has it priced at $15.
I'm guessing it's likely to due to the fact that Kirby games have a history of being pricey, along with being out of print. What do you think?

You're right. I've noticed alot of GameCube titles getting jacked up. Like Resident Evil 1 on GameCube could be found for $9.99. Now it's $17.95? Same goes for Resident Evil Zero. I saw Metroid Prime 2 for $24.99. I found MP2 at Circuit City brand new for $15.
Mario Kart Double Dash I saw for $39.99 today at an EB Game store. Which is just plain retarded.
Meanwhile on Ebay, Metroid Prime 1 has shot up in price. I can still find it for $7.99 at GameStop or EB, but online it's like $20+

Thats why I bought a case of them (6) all Brand NEW and put them away, when they became $20 each. I was laughed at too!
I love "investing" in video games as a side hobby. I have been doing it for years.
I bought a lot of sealed Super Nintendo games this way as well! I have two Chrono Trigger games factory sealed. My friend told me, and I quote(just in case he is reading this): "do you hoenestly think they will be worth something later on?"
Good to see some "cube" games finally picking up steam. I'll have to keep that in mind. I bought several other titles this way as well. The problem is trying to find the time to dig them up, when they do become worth something! I can never find what I need in my storage units. Worse still, I promised a good friend a game that I have buried in the back of storage. What do you do then?
Oh well, what a waste of a Saturday...or is it?

Eternal Darkness was 17.99 when I found it yesterday. So I think I'm going to buy the copy at my local Blockbuster for 6.99.
Hopefully, they will have a special on gamecube games, like they did with X-box.

Pffff. BS. EB/GS are just one huge raqet! They love buying up the competition and adapting prices to eBay. I hate going into their store and finding new copies for $10+ less than a used copy, it's complete crap. They can go to hell for their business practices and I'll stick to other retailers and independant stores for now on, it's just better that way.
... Well, really the only thing they're good for is discounts on older PC games they need to clear out. This is because it seems fewer second hand stores are carrying good PC titles.

Kirby's Air Ride maintained it's MSRP longer than any other Nintendo-released game on the system. I swear, that thing never dropped in price until long after.

Because there is a diminishing supply of the good cube games and a huge explosion of new owners that can use them and are discovering them for the first time. Cube controllers are disappearing for the same reason, especially wavebirds, although we've already discussed that.

Be careful, lest someone tell you you're a moron and to go sit on a steak knife. It happened to me for my "senseless bashing" of EB/Gameslop. I assume you meant they sell used titles for $10 less than new and I wish even that were the case. It has been my experience that their used titles are $5 less than their new ones.

$5 less would be accurate for used. I was there yesterday. Got one game I had a hard time trading for that I've been wanting and that I've noticed is rising in price "online". Yes, it was a Gamecube game. No, I don't have a Wii. And no again, it was NOT Zelda CE which is now back up to 45.99 there. That's for a ratty used and incomplete copy in a replacement case, of course.
What gets me are their trade in values, especially with "this gen" games. Yes, they do it and have done it for any gen. But still, look at the price of new PS3 games (even the older ones), what they PAY OUT for a trade in, and the price they put on to sell them. I'll give them a wide berth, thanks.

I never owned a Gamecube but bought a Wii on launch day, and therefore fall into the category of people who are stocking up on all of the GC games that they missed, controllers, etc. And yes, I have noticed a pretty big jump since last November when I started tracking all of them down. Hell, the only two games for the Cube that I intend to pick up in the immediate future are Mario Superstar Baseball and Super Mario Strikers, and both of those could be had pretty much anywhere that sells video games for $30 new maybe a month ago. Now I can hardly find them anywhere at all, and if I do, they tend to be $35 used. The next time I see them new for $30, I'm going to jump on them. (The reason why I hadn't bought them yet was I thought they might do a Player's Choice release of them... )

Am I only the one here who actually liked the GameCube system?
I mean where else can you find all those great Nintendo games like Zelda, Mario, and Metroid?
Come on, the system wasn't that bad.
I mean, the GameCube is dead! It is fair to say that. Anyone know if there are any more releases coming out for it?
I actually did like and still collect for this system!

I don't own a cube, but it's a pretty decent system. It's got some good games. It's definitely going to be my next system purchase.

You're not alone, buddy. The cube was the first system I owned out of the last generation and I didn't regret my purchase one bit. I played all the games to death and loved the fact that I could get a nice big RE collection going on it right alongside smash bros and new Zelda games. I think my favorite, though, was Eternal Darkness.

I'm completely opposite. I was hoping that GC games would plunder so I could pick a bunch up cheap...but that isn't the case at all

I wouldn't say it held its price like Mario Kart, Tennis, or any of the Party games. I swear their used prices have been 44.99 since they came out.

I was at a local GS last weekend and thought the prices on their GC stuff was pretty good. I picked up Scooby Doo: Unmasked for 12.99 in like new condition and they had a few copies of Unfortunate Events with the free movie pass of only 4.99. Having played the Xbox version i can tell you it's a pretty solid platformer for being based on and average flick and 4.99 is a damn good price. They also had a ton of A-list titles for only 9:99. The most expensive game i saw there were Ratatouille (39.99), Twighlight Princess (49.99) and Hello Kitty Rollar Rescue (34.99).

I had a suspicion prices might go up around now when it was announced way back the Wii would play Cube games. Just as well I started my collecting a couple of years back...

No, I stated it right. I've come across games brand new $25 and they would be selling a stack of used copies for $35+ of the exact same game! I can't recall exact titles because it caused me to just walk out. This has happened on more than one occassion and more than just 1 game for a particular console. It'd be like finding RE3 new for $20 but used for $40 right next to it. I do admit I bought a game from them a few days ago but it was a fluke, I REALLY wanted a copy of Worms Blast and had been hunting for it locally for over a month.

OK my bad if I misunderstood you. I have seen used games there at higher prices than the same title new at other chains. But are you saying that they have the audacity to sell their used games higher than their own new price point? If this is the case, a new level of dumbass has been obtained by them!

Exactly.
Edit:
My explaination was a bit messed up and bias. :D
I would guess that a new employee forgot to either wait until all *new* games were sold or to pull the *new* game with the lower price and write it off. It's also possible the *used* game was found someplace and stocked with an older sticker. The oddball thinig is I've seen several used games with the higher price tags next to the lower priced *new* game. It's just an oddball thing.

I wrote the following post on October 31, 2006. Pretty solid predictions in this one.
"I would say that the N64 is already considered classic. Can you walk into any store now and buy new N64 systems or games? To me if you can't buy it new in a retail store then it's "classic". I definitely think that Cube stuff will take a huge jump in collectability in the near future. As soon as the Wii hits, Nintendo will drop the Cube like a bad habit. I know the Wii has Cube support built in, but look how fast Microsoft abandoned the Xbox when the 360 came out. To all my fellow collectors on this site I would say to get the Cube games that you really want now because it won't be long before they will be out of print, hard to find, and jacked up by ebayers and flea vendors. You know how you pass on that game you want thinking I'll pick it up one of these days and then before you know it you can't find it anywhere. I don't know about you guys, but I really hate that feeling."

You just have to be patient, that's all. I've noticed GameCube games going for much more than PS2 games and XBox games at Gamestop as well.
But then again, I just picked up a complete, barely used Resident Evil 1 for the Cube at Hollywood Video for $7.99 today, which isn't too bad, now is it?
Here's my pick of a game that's going to jump up in price soon, if not already....
PN03, its a great game, tough to learn and fun to play.....Usually under a fiver, so anyone can afford this too...

I am really annoyed by the Wii gamers.
All these idiots who skipped by the GameCube to get an inferior, more expensive system with a shitty ass controller and less features (I'm talking about the PS2) are now flocking to the Wii.
Because it is backwards compatible with the GameCube they're now realizing they were fucktards and it's making it harder for those of us who were intelligent and have had a GameCube for many years to finish our collections.

Around here Gamecube games on the secondhand market have always been scarce. Even all the pawns cube games for ~$15 while PS2 and Xbox games sell anywhere from $5 to $12. I kid you not, Freesytle GC would be marked $15.99 and Baldur's Gate 2 PS2 would be marked $9.99. There are huge amounts of PS2 and Xbox used titles in the wild and barely any gamecube. Even at places like GS or GC.
Xizer... dude on your corner have a fire sale on crack or what?

Man your proving your more of an idiot ever time you post, it's really getting annoying
I will admit I was really dissapointed by the Gamecube, I can see why it never really sold that well because it really wasn't that good of a system especially compared to both the PS2 and Xbox, It had some amazing games but all in all it's a pretty mediocre system but it is really the Wii owners that are bumping up the prices of all the gamecube games.

Here's a list of Gamecube games that have gone up in price at GS/EB. This was posted on CheapAssGamer (http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=151554) yesterday.
Mario Kart Double Dash- $39.99
Mario Power Tennis- $39.99
Mario Baseball- $34.99
Mario Strikers- $34.99
Super Smash Brothers Melee- $34.99
Paper Mario TTYD- $24.99
Hello Kitty Roller Rescue- $34.99
Metroid Prime 2- $24.99
Resident Evil (Remake)- $17.99
Star Fox Assault- $19.99
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes- $24.99
Pikmin 2- $24.99
Lego Star Wars 2- $24.99
Mario Party 5- $39.99
Pokemon Colosseum and Pokemon XD- $29.99 each
Kirby Air Ride- $24.99
Mario Golf Toadstool Tour- $19.99
This being said, I'm really glad about the good deals I've had on some of these games (including a non-Player's Choice copy of Resident Evil for $7.50 last month). Like RickHarrisMaine said, you have to be patient.
I bought my Gamecube in February 2004. It was a cheap system with several exclusives I was interested in. I also wound up buying several multi-platform titles that I would have bought on PS2 if I didn't own a Cube. I have over 60 Gamecube games and I'm glad I now have most of the ones I wanted.

Although Xizer is obviously talking about people like me (see my earlier post in this thread), I can't say I entirely disagree with him. Having the Wii now and loading up on all of the GC games I missed makes me feel dumb for not owning one in the first place. I've probably spent more time in the past 10 months playing GC games on the Wii than I did in 5 +/- years of playing X-Box games on an X-Box.

I don't understand this comment either. What I can tell you, is that the affluent are more likely to buy a Wii system than any other game system right now! There was an excellent report written on this. If I have the time, I will find it and post it here. Ironically the Wii, is the cheapest of the three heavy hitters-go figure!
