Hi,

I aqquired an xbox 360 premium off a friend of a friend and was told that it works fine but that it takes about 3 minutes to load when its turned on.

Sure enough when I turned it on at home, it goes to the xbox 360 splash screen and stays like that for 3 minutes. After the 3 minutes the dashboard comes on and it works fine.

Why does it take so long to load?

Sounds like a homemade three red light fix. Has it been tampered with prior?

I'm not really sure. How would I know if its tampered with. I can't really ask the friend of a friend.

Is it connected on the network for live. It could be searching for an network connection

No its not hooked up to the network.

Is there any way I could erase all of the network settings and basically format the console so that I can start over fresh.

What do you think?

Does it take 3 mins. to boot without the hard drive attached?

So I swapped out the hard drive I had with a formatted hard drive from a friend and it booted up in about 5 seconds. I then went and looked at the other hard drive again and saw that it had 16gb of stuff on it. I then tried to format it but I got an error saying that it could not be formatted.

I guess the problem is the hard drive but is it broken or is there some sort of fix for it?

When you suspect a problem with a piece of hardware (XB360), you should isolate the test to the unit itself.

Disconnecting that HDD was the key. If it works fine without it, and that one won't format, get a new HDD.

You can't usually repair an HDD.

Thanks for the help. The 360 works great, it was just a bad hard drive.

I'm counting down the days till I get my red ring of death though.

Check the date of manufacture on the system. If it's within 3 years and you get the RRoD MS will send you a box to return it and replace it (probably with a refurb, but hey, if it works.....). Search other posts or google for specific info, maybe... I hope this helps.
