It's that time again. I know there's some debate about the official launch date for SNES, I'll ignore that and lump it in with DC and PS. I can't believe SNES is 16, PS is 12, and DC is 8. Time sure does fly. I didn't get a SNES or PS at launch so I'm going to sit back and play my launch DC games. I'll probably fire up the other systems too just out of respect!

Feel free to share your thoughts and memories here.

Never owned a SNES believe it or not just played a cousins, didn't get a ps until the psone came out and the dc I didn't own until recently before that I used a friends who picked his up at launch. Best damn launch ever, the DC.

SNES may be one of the best systems ever certainly of the 16bit era

as much as I love sega (far more than nintendo) you can't deny that all the systems you just listed were inferior to the SNes all on its own. Now saturn vs 64 or DC vs GC sure easy wins for sure.

I almost forgot about dreamcast anniversary until someone mentioned it at work (as a significant historical event no less). Guess I'll play fighters and vertical shmups all of tomorrow. Should be a fun time.

Of these three, the launch that had the biggest impact on me was the PS. That's the system that really blew my mind. I remember when the SNES was released, I went out and rented one with F-Zero. My family didn't have much money so I'm pretty sure F-Zero was the only game I got to rent. To say the least, I wasn't very impressed with F-Zero and my young mind wasn't able to think far beyond that. No, the SNES was a huge letdown. It wasn't until a couple years ago that I really gave SNES another chance. (even though I had one in 1997) I got a hold of a new one about a year ago and it's one of my favorite systems.
The DC was released shortly before or after I was stationed in Japan and my mind was too occupied to even notice the release. Once I started seeing people around the ship playing the DC I was pretty impressed. Soul Calibur, Jet Grind, Crazy Taxi, and Powerstone impressed me quite a lot. I had been playing Soul Calibur, Crazy Taxi, and Powerstone at the arcade for some time before I saw them played on the DC. I was quite impressed to see how smooth the Naomi-DC transition worked.
Now the PS launch. That's a whole other story. I was impressed from day 1. That thing never failed to renew my faith in its ability to reach new levels. Man that thing was awesome!! No system has managed to deliver a "Wow!!" like the PS. I had an NES and a SNES at the time so I never found myself needing the PS to handle my 2D needs.

It's hard to believe it's been 8 years since the launch of the Dreamcast. I was in the 8th grade at the time. Actually, 8 years ago today, I was home from school playing hookey. It was a very hot day, and I bitched enough that I convinced my mom to let me stay home because it was hotter than it was the day before, and I was really out of it due to the heat. I was two steps away from a heat stroke. I didn't get a Dreamcast, though. That didn't happen until Christmas. I played Sonic 3 and Knuckles on my Genesis all the way through to completion 8 years ago today.

Today, I played Street Fighter Alpha 3 on my DC. It wasn't my first game. It should've been, but it got pushed back to no end. Still, it was the game that made me want the Dreamcast so much. I loved the arcade version, but I couldn't stand the Playstation. It was either get a Dreamcast or get the import Saturn version of SFA3 and somehow get it to work on my American Saturn. This was back in 1999, and I didn't know the ins and outs of getting import games to work. I just saw Saturn SFA3 in an old Gamecave ad in an old Gamefan magazine that year, and I didn't know much else. I didn't even know you needed a 4MB RAM cart. Well, anyway, SFA3 DC was my first game in a way because before Christmas, I got an Official Dreamcast Magazine with SFA3 on the demo disc. The very first game I played on my DC was that SFA3 demo. It wasn't until five or six months later that it got released!

Nice try, and you're entitled to it, but the SFC/SNES is the finer sistem.

Hey guys, it's 9/11 now, which means you should give your still-celebrating Dreamcast a chance to play Propeller Arena!
