I have the patience of a..... well.... something that doesn't have a lot of patience. I popped that sucker apart with a butterknife so many times that it was barely held together by the time I lost it.

Learned how to do it just last year. Now I can do it in just a couple minutes. Still can't do the 4x4 though.

I bought a severely "played with" one a few years back. I literally spent 2 days trying to solve the damn thing, only got 3 sides.

the real one was hard, never did get all the sides together.
i just picked up the atari 2600 Video Cube (at goodwill) and that sum-ma-ma-biotch is even harder to play

I cant estimate how many hours I played and fiddled with a Rubiks cube when it was released in the 6th grade. I thought it was the most fascinating thing ever...The offshoot of all those damn hours is I eventually learned to solve it, make patterns here and there, etc.. And thus it's permanently etched in my brain how to do it even 20 years later :hmm:

Instead of using a butterknife. I used a blunt object to remove the pieces. Namely my wall. Sucker flew apart. One of the more satisfying moments in my life. :D

For me, I'd just paint the whole damn cube one color. That way it'd be solved no matter how messed up anyone tries to make the cube. ;)

Never could do it :( Too freakin difficult, and it couldn't hold my attention. I'd rather pick lint from my toes or *gasp* go outside!

I've heard my oldest brother was very good in it. In fact we had (and still have) an article about it at home, which explains in detail how the cube works. I haven't read it, but I sounded very complex.

I have a whole slew of them and I STILL can't beat it! I actually found a book that shows you how to, but I'd prefer to figure it out on my own. Just don't have the patience to do it! LOL
I can beat the Pyramix fairly quickly. And I have the 4x4x4 that Congobongo speaks of, but I'm afraid to attempt it, until I finish the regular one.

Here's my collection of them:

I thought this poll was gonna be about the different Rubik's games that have graced the 2600

Atari Video Cube/Rubik's Cube
Cubicolor (aka: Rubik's Race from my picture above)
and the recently released 3D Rubik's Cube

Interesting nonetheless! :P

heh i was hoping some one would mention the pyraminx, i have no idea why my dad got me that one seeing as how i'd had little luck with cube i already had. then they got me the chain one, i did better with that, it was a multisided barrel thing where you had to slide around these chain link tiles..you gotta get that one for your collection. ohh and what about the new extra easy homer simpson head ones?

When I was 5 someone gave me one and I solved it in like 3 minutes much to every witness' horror. My entire family watched me do it. Of course I can't for the life of me solve the damn thing now at 28.

I had forgotten about that 4x4x4 cube. Now that I remember... I think I have that along with the neon colored pyramid. There's a few Rubik puizzle missing from the pussle including the linking chain (3 blocks long, 4 different colored chains and you're to make all 4 chains in the correct order and in matching color) and a grey orb with some grooves and 4 different colored beads. I can't remember what that orb was called.

Also there's the Linking the Ring (4x2 square tiles with 3 rings unlinked on one side) where you have to flip and fold until the ring links on the other side. (I've solved this ages ago) and a similiar version with 5 linked rings to unlink. (6x2 tiles I believe)

I think I was a sophmore in High School (1983) when my friend gave me a book called "You Can Do The Cube" written by a child prodigy who could beat the thing. The book taught a strategy (layer by layer, not side by side) and gave the spin patterns for the necessary maneuvering. The book was very well done and the patterns became second nature in about a week.

I took apart my cube and lubricated it with graphite and made it into a racing cube. I was able to solve the thing usually in less than 80 seconds, easy. My best time was 64 seconds. I had a paper route and used to fix my customers cubes once a week when I came around to collect for delivery. It was great for tips (particularly since I was a lousy paperboy).

What was cool was that no one gave a damn that I had used a book to solve it, they just wanted their cube fixed and were always amazed at how fast I could do it. For the record: I wouldn't have ever had the patience to figure the thing out on my own.

Anyway, those days are gone and my spin patterns are lost. I picked up a few cubes in the last five years and I can't do it anymore. It was fun at the time.
