I just got one after not having it since the launch :) I cannot remember what that "lock" switch on the left side is for however. Doesn't seem to lock anything as far as I can see. Anybody know? Thanks!

Based on the location, I would make a guess that it would lock the drive tray shut. But then again, my Sega CD doesn't work so I can't test it.

It locks the mixing cable so it doesn't get pinched in the tray

Aha! So simple. Thanks for that. I can't believe the deal I got on this baby:

It looked great in the auction, but I never expected it to come in virtually brand new :) Looks as if whoever purchased it took it out of the box and put it into storage or something. Yup, today is a very good day for me!

Speaking of the Sega CD mixing cable, I recently started using mine to connect my MP3 player to tha AUX in on my car stereo. Thanks, Sega! I knew that stupid cable would come in handy some day.

Excuse the newb question, but I can't for the life of me remember what the mixing cable does. Anyone care to enlighten me?

Well, without it, you only get half of the sound. It is most noticable during the main sequence (when you turn it on). I immediately noticed it didn't sound right, and remembered that it needed the cable. The auction didn't have one included, but I STILL had mine from when I purchased it new back in the heyday...believe it or not. Not sure what happened to my actual purchased unit (probably traded it to someone in the 90's...lots of trades in those days), but I still had that cable :)

It's only needed if you're using the audio outputs on the Sega CD itself, though. The regular Genesis audio output is already mixed. That's mono only, though (at least on a Genesis 1...the Genesis 2 has stereo on its AV port, right?).

Ah, looks like I'll need a mixing cable, then, when I finally get around to getting an AV cable or modding the system. Where does it plug in? To the headphone jack on the model 1? Will any cable work with the correct jack?
