Well, it's nice that he actually took the time to produce a nice video that both highlights a game and has decent production values. However, he pretty shamelessly rips off AVGN's format and theme music, when he should have just done his own thing.

Plus, ripping games is more funny.

It's a parody. The theme music and style were intentionally "ripped off" and it was well done. There are a ton of AVGN knock-offs on YouTube now and this was one of the better ones I've seen.

He's right about Metal Storm, too.

BTW, Gentlegamer, as one of the apparently 10 fans of Stroker and Hoop, I love the avatar.

Man, That Was good! I've never heard of metalstorm, But i'm going to pick it up if I see it. However, I think he should use other words in place of swear words. Like "Flipping" Instead of "F---" If he is going to be the opposite, Then he should be completely opposite of the AVGN.

"In contemporary usage, a parody (or lampoon) is a work that imitates another work in order to ridicule, ironically comment on, or poke some affectionate fun at the work itself, the subject of the work, the author or fictional voice of the parody, or another subject."

It's SUPPOSED to be a rip-off. That's the idea. Hell, the Metal Storm video is almost a word-for-word parody of AVGN's Karate Kid video.

I know what a parody is.

The point I was making, is that if he wanted to highlight Metal Storm, it would have been more enjoyable video and less distracting from the point if he had done his own thing, rather than using the AVGN format as a crutch. The "parody" aspect of the video doesn't really accomplish anything, because it's not trying to be funny, and like I said, it distracts from the subject of the video.

I can mostly agree with that -- I think he's a good enough reviewer that he doesn't need the AVGN stuff in there. His stuff would stand on its own. (Though I'm sure he's gotten some attention -- here for example -- that he wouldn't have gotten as a straight reviewer.)

Nevertheless, I think the wine-sipping bit is great -- I'm going to start doing that when I sit down in the evening to enjoy a vintage classic NES game. "This one's 1985. A very good year."

It seems to be a tad derivative at the start, but it's above and beyond the best AVGN parody/rip-off to appear before it.

Plus, it's certainly a good sign when the first person to subscribe to this newcomer's reviews is the AVGN himself.

I like this guy, supporting the underdogs is always one of my favorite things to do. For example, the old debate of Super Mario 2 Vs. the REAL Super Mario 2 and the fact I love Zelda II as one of my favorite Zelda games.

Then again, "IREM" is a dead give away to know that it's gonna be a kickass game. Now I really want to find this game, because he had a good point, it was overlooked back in the day.

I gave the two videos a watch was pleasantly surprised. Metal Storm and Journey to Silius excellent picks. Both I games I picked up as a kid out of the local Target bargin bin without ever having played them or even heard of them at the time. Both great games! I didn't know Journey to Silius was based on the Terminator license originally, so that explains a lot there.

I just played it today and WOW is it a blast. And it is hard too, but because of the way the continues and check points are set up it never becomes frustrating. It's that beautiful kind of difficulty that runs you over but keeps you playing because you know sheer tenaciousness will get you through. It's actually better than the review makes it out to be.

I'm going to track down a hard copy as soon as I can.

I think this guy likes the AVGN... as opposed to just making fun of him. At the end of the Journey to Silius review he has a credit that reads "Special Thanks to these people that are more creative and talented than me... James Roth" I could be wrong but I think that is the AVGN guy. I know he's a James anyway. :P

It's a parody of the AVGN's "Shitpickle" from his Master Hu and the Drunkard Chu video.

I just finished watching the Wild Guns review. At the beginning, especially with the parody theme song, I figured it was just gonna be some lame parody of AVGN, with the reviewer being overly nice to games rather than drag them through the dirt. But it turned out to be a pretty damn solid review, with a couple of good jokes.

I say keep 'em coming. AVGN can take care of bashing the shitty games that deserve bashing, and HVGN can remind us of good long forgotten titles. Both are awesome in my book.

I am not joking. I am being honest here. I post the updates on the vc releases in the Modern gaming forum. I get the infomation early since October.

I stumbled across a forum on the internet that has a poster that gives out vc release dates early. His information is never wrong. He leaks the info from a pr person he knows. That pr person works for a major video game company as pr person. I will not say what company because I don't want that person to be fired.

That info I give out early also sometimes gets posted on gonintendo.com.

I ran across this person because a mod from vc-reviews. The mod said he got the mondays release dates early from a different forum with him mentioning the site.

I give credit to Jsnake and the pr person as a result on my posting updates.

I've had the Little Nemo Dream Master game since 2004 but I never played it much. From what I heard, The movie didn't come out (In America) For at least a year after the game so people thought it was based off of the comics.
