It seems that every damn topic about the PSP has something to do with firmware, ISOs, emulators and so forth. How's about one for just playing regular PSP games?
I'm currently playing Astonishia Story, and plan on moving to Valkyrie Profile next. What's everyone else playing?
Please, no talk about firmware, isos and such. That's the entire purpose of this thread.

I suggest trying the two Metal Gear Ac!d games, they seem to be overlooked most of the time in the PSP universe. The games stray far away from the traditional MGS series, but I find them to be highly enjoyable, that is if you enjoy action card games(is that even a genre?). The only downside is that the action can be a little slow at times. PS I'm sorry my description is abit, vague I am just very tired at the moment.
I would also suggest that you all stay away from Infected, it is the worst PSP game I own. :(

Despite what a lot of people might try and tell you, there are lots of excellent titles available for the PSP. If you enjoy RPGs I highly recommend Jeanne D'Arc. I'd also recommend Tekken: DR, Crush, Powerstone Collection, Drop Dead Fred, Lumines, Exit, Wipeout, Every Extend Extra, Chili Con Carnage, Burnout Legends, and Gradius Collection. I could go on, but I think eleven suggestions is probably more than you can/will play anyway. :)

Yeah, I own both Acid games. I tried the first for a bit, and found that it would be alot better if I really focused on it. I didn't even pass the first mission.
Infected is the game where you can "infect" other PSPs right?

I want one but just for the emulation stuff.
the "actual" library seems pretty crap.

Well... I'm playing Crisis Core.... but I guess that is an iso and you really don't want to hear about that.
Aside from that... I was playing The Bigs. Umm... another iso... hold on a sec....
GTA VCS.... now that is a real UMD. :) I have played it from time to time!
The actual library is FAR from crap. There are plenty of games on the PSP for any gamer. That is my opinion. The old (and boring) arguement of 'the psp has no good games' is just silly.
If you can't find a good game... it is because you refuse to look for it.

Here is my list. Keep in mind, this is just my opinion!
Capcom Classics Remixed
Capcom Classics Reloaded
Gradius Collection
Power Stone Collection
Y's
Taito Legends
Mega Man Powered Up
Mega Man X Hunter
Monster Hunter Freedom
Capcom Puzzle World
Hot Shots Golf
Valkyrie Profile
Need more? I did abbreviate some titles, but you can figure out what I mean. I like a lot of the old stuff, so that is what my list mainly centers around. Hopefully, you can find some enjoyment out of one or more of those titles!

I think pretty much all the titles I've seen listed so far is pretty on point imo. Also don't forget about the Castlevania game comming out soon, FF7: Crisis Core, and if you or one of your friends got PS3, you can download Symphony of the night for $10. The remakes of FF1+2 are fun to play if you haven't already played the shit out of them. I actually like Guilty Gear: Judgment too.

Jeane D'Arc. Best SRPG I've ever played on a handheld (and I've played them all). Top notch stuff from Level 5 (Dragon Quest VIII, Rogue Galaxy). The gameplay, presentation and fun factor make this one of the first A-list RPG's for the PSP.
BTW: It's also $29.99 new.

Still going through Jeanne d'Arc myself. Damn fine game. PSP exclusive. Well worth the money.

Between backlogs on other systems I'm working my way to Jeanne D'arc; it sits on my shelf sealed <sigh>
Daxter
Lumines
Pinball Hall of Fame
PoPoLoCrois ($10 BB clearance!)
Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth
MGS: PO
Those are the stand-outs for me, although I have about a dozen other titles including racers and action/adventure, although RPG's are the bulk.
I converted my PSX Castlevania: SOTN and play that as an ISO, along with a few others. I dump my PSP games to the memory stick to save battery power and lose loading times. I'm definitely getting good usage out of my PSP :)

This is what i'm trying to avoid here.
Thanks for all the suggestions everyone. Besides Castlevania, anyone else looking forward to any other games?

No, the library is pretty crappy. There are too many watered down Playstation ports, and most of the exclusives are only exclusive because they're too crappy to be console games.
That doesn't mean there are no good games. The GTA games aren't bad, and I have that new SRPG Jeanne D'Arc, which is pretty good. And of course the PSP has worth as an emulator. Most games stink though. If I sound uninformed, I can list my library of games for the system and explain why each one is bad, but that doesn't seem necessary.

This is the same BS people have been saying about the PSP for a long time now. It has zero merit. Sorry, but you're just wrong.

A good chunk of the PSPs library isn't worth playing, but the same is true of the DS' library, the GBA's library, and every other handheld's library.
If I sound uninformed, I can list my library of games for the system and explain why each one is bad, but that doesn't seem necessary.
You do sound uninformed and I do think it's necessary. I'd love for you to justify your PSP bashing with something that even remotely resembles impartiality. I own a DS, NGPC, Lynx, Game Gear, Turbo Express, Nomad, GP2X, and GBA in addition to my PSP, and I have quite a few games for all of them.
I think anyone that has similarly played a lot of games for a lot of different handhelds would say they all have their fair share of gems and stinkers. To assert that the PSP has a disproportionate number of bad games relative to its good games is just the mantra of biased Nintendo fanboys that feel the need - for whatever reason - to condemn the competition without giving it a fair shake.

I just picked up Jeanne D'Arc; if you're a fan of strategy RPG's you could definitely do worse. However, in October both Disgaea and FF Tactics come to the PSP; those are better than Jeanne D'Arc.
I love Guilty Gear Judgement. I'm not sure if that's a declaration or a confession.
Tekken Dark Resurrection is a pretty good 3D fighter too. The Street Fighter 3 Alpha Max package is pretty solid too, and there are the fighting games I recommend.
Lumines II and Every Extend Extra are the puzzle/weird ass games that I play on the PSP.
And finally, you can't forget Metal Gear Portable Ops.
As for imports, check out Princess Crown and Breath of Fire III

The PSP has an excellent line up of games. I just purchased mine and picked up four with it. I've never purchased more than two games for any console after a purchase and it was simply because I couldn't choose between the ones I wanted.
Still didn't get all of them.
Anyway, the GTA games are awesome. Vice City is much better on the PSP than on the PS2 (the graphics don't look nearly as "muddy"). I'm also liking Tokobot, it's fun, cute and pretty inventive. Ratchet and Clank is a blast (though the camera WILL kill you). I've been muddling my way through Astonishia Story, which is fun in that "I have no idea why I don't hate this, but I don't" kind of way. The humor is weird. Very weird.

Pretty much all of the games stated above are great PSP games, but here are some of my favorites that I own:
-Burnout Legends: excellent title, way better than the DS version. Plays just like Burnout 3, except that you have tracks from the first two games included in there as well! It's only about $20 new.
-Burnout Dominator: Another great game, whether you get it on the PS2 or the PSP. However, on the PSP, you can download new tracks from EA, so I guess that makes this one a preference over the PS2 version. The good news: it's only $20 as well! :) Although I own the PS2 version, it's still a great game.
-Crazy Taxi: Fare Wars: My personal favorite, since I love Crazy Taxi and the thought of having a portable version was just awesome. There are some framerate issues with Crazy Taxi 2 (it's a little on the slow side), but otherwise, these are very good ports of the Dreamcast Crazy Taxi's. There's also an exclusive multiplayer mode, too. This is a very easy game to just pick up and play.
-Ridge Racer: Great game, has tracks from all of the Ridge Racer games (up to Ridge Racer V). It has a cool soundtrack as well.
-Daxter: A great PSP platformer. Easy controls, great platforming, solid action, and awesome cutscenes make this game easy to recommend, especially for fans of the first Jak and Daxter and the Mario games.

I am glad to hear you got a PSP, it is an under rated system. It has quite a lot of good games out, and coming out for it.

It really is. And to be honest, I was really torn and was still feeling a little unsure when walking out with the thing. Now that I've explored the library a bit and started to perk my ears up to what's on the way I'm quite happy about it. It's actually the first time I've thought, "You know, maybe games should start switching to completely portable machines." Because it really is console quality.
Not that I'm slamming the DS. The two are two very different and worthy play experiences.
Oh, and add Syphon Filter to my list too. Another weird one: Hated those games on the PS and PS2 but really like the first one on the PSP. I really dig the solution they came up with for the controls.

Syphon Filter is great, and the online has not been matched, it even has headset support. Here are some titles on my PSP shelf, most of which I would highly recommend, the rest are just querky or personal favorites. I would also suggest grabbing some import games, as there are some steller imports for the PSP. Here are some suggestions for you to look into, and yes, I have a very large PSP library ;)

Ken,
That is an awesome collection! I would love some of those games - especially the shooter compilations - but funds require I be a little more selective in my purchases.
Edit: Btw, as an aside, how do you folks with substantial PSP collections store the games? Any particular storage options that anyone can highly recommend?

Hawksmoor - ha ha, thanks. I left out a bunch that are ports (Tiger Woods 07, NFS Most Wanted, SSX On Tour - all good, but they are ports) and others that I would not recommend purchasing (Gangs of London - I liked it, but most did not). I have more PSP games than any other console, save for maybe the 360. I do love the PSP. I would use homebrew on it, but I have a GP2X, so I have no need. Now, if I get a second PSP, then I will install the OE firmware ;)
As for storage, I have two shelves full of PSP games, and I need a bigger shelf :P But I keep them all in their case. When my collection was smaller, I would keep them in those nifty plastic holders, but I have way too many now to make that feasable.

I like Gitaroo-Man Lives!, Loco Roco, Lumines, Me & My Katamari, Mega Man: Powered Up, Parodius Portable, Popolocrois, and Work Time Fun. Sounds like I'm going to have to buy Jeanne D'arc, and I'm really looking forward to the Disgaea, Final Fantasy Tactics, and Castlevania ports.

And it doesn't hurt that Jeanne d'Arc retails for $29.99 either. I am very much looking forward to the Castlevania port as well.
