I know you're out there! If you want to get involved, post in here ideas or how you want to help.

Current status:
I'm currently looking at places to host a decent sized gathering of gamers in the near future. Depending on the head counts it'll either be at a small convention center, public library or someones house. The way it looks right now the first setup will be at a library but we'll see.

Pro/Cons:
Center: Costs $$, will have to charge fees, however we can run all day and all night.
Library: Free or very cheap, may be able to get donations to reserve, however it's only open 9-5pm and we have to close shop @ 4:30 to cleanup.
House: Limited space, noise issues and other limitations. However we have more control over the gathering and is ideal if it's a really small group.

What's there:
We're going to have home consoles and arcades setup for casual play and competitions. If we get an extra room then we'll set it up for panels and will be taking ideas when the time comes. If it is large enough we'll add a LAN room and bring your laptop/desktop along for the ride.

Promoting:
A few local stores are leaning towards promoting the gathering by posting up a flyer and discussing with customers. A lot of gaming websites have Events and Gathering sections to help spread the word (thanks DP!) and have already reached a few people here and there that wouldn't mind comming.

I'd prefer to keep this free and available to everyone around here so newer gamers can join in and make it a larger event. Once again if you're remotely interested in comming or just helping out just post here so we can have a more public head count.

Cool cool. I'll be out in VA Beach at some point tomorrow so send me a PM if you have some free time.

There's over 30 reads, are there others interested?

I'd probably go but it would have to not be on top of other events I've already got planned, and I'd probably need to get a ride.

That's cool. I added you on IM and you're currently away. I'm on a different s/n (shhhhh). But yeah, my laptop uses the s/n in my profile.

I need some head counts for the gathering so I can pick out a destination. Everyone who's even thinking about going post +1 and your city, also any decent locations (we're not going to just hang out at a mall arcade).

Well, it looks like I'll need to build things from the ground up. I have fall break comming up the week after next (Oct. 8-10 I believe) and will want to plan a meeting for Saturday October 6th. We need to come up with a name, website domain, pull together some basic info and a mission statement. I know I have some backup from local game stores so promoting the club/organization won't be too difficult.

Once again, if you're interested PM and what time is good on the 6th or if another date is better. I'll arrange a meeting place over the next few days.

I'd be interested, as long as it's not just a bunch of dudes playing Madden '08. PM me more info when you get it.

Okay, not much has changed since my first inquery but classes are over now so I'll begin asking around again. There is a small arcade competition on Saturday Dec. 29th around 5pm or so in Virginia Beach. If you're interested shoot me a PM for more information as these little gatherings are the starter.

It's all good. You may remember this thread (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=93035)as I forgot about it due to nil input from others. There are some people I've had the chance to talk with and agree there needs to be some game organization or gathering of some sort. By the time you're back in town maybe we'll have a good number of people to where we are in a library or somewhere other than just a person's house.
