I recently got a Twin Famicom, and while it's great being able to use AV and having a built in disc drive, the joypad cables are about 2 feet long. It's inconventient having to sit so close to the console, so I'm looking for a way around it. I know I could just buy an AV famicom, but I like having the FDS built in.

There's an expansion port that allows you to connect third party joypads and joysticks, but those cables are usually ultra short too. Does anybody know where to get a joypad with a longer cable, or better yet an extension cable or a Famicom-to-NES pad converter?

I've always wondered why japanese cables are so short. I'm guessing it's because there isn't enough room in the average Japanese apartment to sit too far from your TV anyways.

have someone wire you new cables

I had my original famicom modded for 6 foot cables

A few months back I picked up a Seta Wireless Commander pad from eBay. It's a bit thicker then a normal pad, but works pretty good. The adapter plugs into the side of my Twin Famicom and as long as your pointing mostly towards it, it works like a charm.

You'll discover that cords on Japanese systems are way short (the PC Engine also comes to mind). But the typical Japanese home/apartment is quite small so that's why.

You didn't really think that Acclaim designed the controller themselves, did you?

Heh, so it is. I hadn't noticed before since I've never owned the NES one. Still, it makes my Famicom playing a heck of a lot easier without having to drag the whole unit next to my recliner. Plus this one is bright yellow. :)

The cable's not very long, but I recommend hunting down the Joycard Sansui SSS controller, the same model as was released for the NES. You get rapid-fire and "simulated stereo sound"! :-D

I found a place that sells Famicom joypads for 7 bucks, so I bought one of those and a NES extension cable. I'm just going to chop the adapter of the famicom joypad and splice it on to the extension cable, and voila! A Famicom-to-NES adapter.

Since the Famicom port is identical to a Atari 5200 or Neo Geo cable, I tried finding extension cables for those, but they're very hard to come by and usually expensive.

I just use a PSX to Fami adapter. I believe tototek sells them.

It depends how much you want to pay I guess. It is possible to get an original set of Nintendo Famicom 1/2 player controllers with 2 meter cables (original is 1 meter) for $40. Very easy to install. All you need to do is unscrew the 6 screws on the bottom of your Famicom, open it up, and plug in the new ones in replace of the old ones.

For $8 extra you can get a set of gold foil decal replacements for the 1/2 controllers.

The neo geo cables are easy to find, they use basic db15 cables. There's a guy on ebay that sells them for $2.99 each + $5 shipping and $1 shipping for each additional. I know this because I bought 4 off of him.
