I remember a thread back a year or two ago, where somebody had listed like virtually every video game system, and the USA release date. I've done many searches, but can't seem to find that thread. Anybody remember that thread? Anyone know where there is an accurate list of the chronological releases of video game systems in the USA? I know I can check Wikipedia for each system, but their release dates are often kinda sketchy.

not sure about the thread. But here is a web page that seems to do the job.

let me know if that helps.

The Super Nintendo didn't launch in the USA on August 13th. Unfortunately, somehow that August 13th date got reported somewhere, and everybody just copied it, and assumed it was correct. I actually had a really long thread about this. Many arguments were made back and forth, but I was able to trace the release of the SNES in the USA back to a particular week in August. It didn't have a concrete launch date, where every retailer had it on a specific day. It was a bit more sporadic, but it all started on a particular week.

I did a search for that old thread, but can't find it now. But basically, we had deteremined that the very first SNES systems started showing up for sale on Tuesday, August 20th, 1991, but that most stores didn't start selling them till Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Egm had the official launch day as August 23rd. This was in a magazine that came out at that time. I had pictures of the magazine in the thread, and all kinds of crap like that. Somebody found an article from a newspaper where the store manager of a Babbages was talking about how they sold out of the SNES on the first day. I think that store was selling them on Wednesday August 21st. But again, it was very sporadic. The majority of the stores weren't selling them until Friday, August 23rd.

The August 13th date, is actually a date in which certain members of the media were sent one, and then somehow that got misconstrued as the USA release date, but it wasn't even close.
