Is the stick as stiff as the originals? Has anyone looked inside it to see if the games are on a ROM chip that you could replace with your own ROM chip, say with 150 of your favs? How sharp is the video output? Where did you buy yours? Not that I want to, but it seems like it would be a lot easier to make a handheld 2600 games system using the board and housing from this than what I see people doing currently, hacking down a full size 2600.

I've seen that all over. Man, I really like that they went with the 2600 stick style rather than a PSX pad like the others.

However, I can't justify spending the money. It's funny that you could pick up a 2600 and those games for the same price if not cheaper if you were looking. But for those who don't want to invest the time, it's a smart item.

Sorry I don't have anything to add. I've been curious too. Hopefully someone has one and will rip it open soon.

I think it would be worth it if you can add your own game ROM to it. Those 10 games aren't anything to get excited about. I like that it already has A/V jacks built in. Those handheld 2600 systems I've seen for years are impossible to find in NTSC. You can buy PAL ones all day long.

Maybe Laura will bust hers open!

The game thing, that is :embarrassed:

My educated guess is that you CANNOT replace with your own ROM, for two reasons. ONE: it's a 10-in-1 ROM and unlikely that you could just lay 10 binaries in succession and expect this to work assuming that anyone in their right mind would go through the trouble of de-soldering the existing circuit board; and TWO: it's also unlikely that even a single game ROM would work since I'm pretty sure these are not the same binaries we use in our emulators (the games on this system couldn't be emulated since three of the existing titles would not work with a joystick).

As always, I *could* be wrong.

The 'system' could be expecting the roms at certain headers within the game rom set, too. Still, pretty neat.. if only it had a cartridge port.. :D

Over on AtariAge, Curt Vendel did quite a thorough review of this item. He also explains why this item will never never never never never never never work as a ROM-replacable game system. Here's more than you'll ever want to know:

That Activision 10 in one is the same thing. It's not a real Atari 2600 hardware but rather mimics the 2600 hardware and games. IOW it's a nice novelity item but a major piece of crap if you want real authentic.
