Just a quick question:
It has been years since I imported systems (Super Grafx ring a bell to anyone-LOL)
anyway my questions is, do you need any type of step down power converter to play a JAPANESE SYSTEM in the US?
Please let me know, as I don't want to damage my new PS2 Import Ceramic White system I just ordered!

I can testify to that, as I use 2 Japanese power supplies with a couple of my imported systems (Twin Famicom and PC Engine Duo to be exact). Aside from producing a bit more heat than American power supplies, they work just fine.

Sorry to drag up this old thread. So you're saying it's just plug and play? I can go buy a Japanese Wii or Japanese PS2, and just plug them in and play with no problems?

In the USA you can directly use a japanese system without a transformer. However if you live in a country with 220 volt sockets you can't.

Yup!
A Japanese PS2 is switchable voltage anyway -- it'll work anywhere in the world with a plug adapter.
The Wii is not switchable, but Japanese voltage is close enough to US voltage that it's no problem.

Well that's just awesome, and boy does that simplify things a bit. I was going to get a Japanese PS2 for my girlfriend for Christmas, but I wasn't sure. Now I can. Thanks!

I believe Japan runs typicall on 100 Volts, and the US runs on 120. My US stuff worked fine in Japan, and the Japanese systems will work totally fine here with their Japanese AC adapters, it's just they will heat up quicker, so maybe think twice if you want to do an all-nighter with one ;)

does this aply with earler systems as well? PCE, etc. or is it better to use a step down for the earlier systems? I would assume it does but I just wanted to check for later on. mainly for the PC Engine (at the moment) since I already have ways to play Saturn,Famicom & SFC.
I already knew about the modern systems since I have a japanese slim PS2. :)
Thanks!

I have a PCE, SFC, FC, and FDS and they too all work fine with their original adapters :)
