Label says Square Enix U.S.A.

How much SCRAMBLING around the office went on to change THAT? :) Not enough to change the Squaresoft logo though.

Edit - in the Manual, the default party listed is as follows:
Cloud - Warrior
Sabin - Monk
Rosa - White Mage
Vivi - Black Mage
Sounds like a plan to me!

On the packaging front: it looks as though they had to scramble on the Canadian packagingl.

They had to shrinkwrap it a second time in order to include the French instruction booklet. So after opening up the first round of shrinkwrapping I had to open the 'real' shrinkwrapping. :)

Were these French instructions at least equal to the ones that Square added on the other modern FF games (VII onward)? These are good, pretty much equivalent to Nintendo's French instructions, minus the color.

I'm getting my copy of Origins tomorrow (one of my friends works in an independently owned videogame store and their shipment of the game will arrive tomorrow). It's on my way back from work (a 5 or 10-minute detour, no more), so that's good.

From what I've heard (can someone verify this?) The grave that used to read "Here lies the legendary warrior Erdrick" (a nod to Enix's Dragon Warrior back in the NES days) now says "Here lies the legendary warrior Link". Can someone please confirm this?

I have to be honest up front - I toss the French instructions for all new games pretty much right away. It might seem like an odd thing for an anal collector like myself to be doing, but I hate extraneous packaging and I just don't care to have two sets of instructions. The only time I haven't done this is the O2 stuff I got from cap'n.

So while I haven't looked at previous FF instructions in francais, I do still have Origins translated book (here at work with me - in case I have to return the game, which I haven't tested yet). And they look decent enough to me - but, as you said, there's no colour.

The French instructions are okay, but the fact that it's a PSX game means that there isn't inner space for storage of the extra instructions, unlike for DVD cases.

BTW, yes it is true that the grave now says Here lies Link instead of Erdrick. Also, everyone who complained that the remake of Dragon Warrior for the GBC was too easy won't be disappointed with FF Origins: the game, even in so-called Easy Mode, has tougher enemies.

All in all, it's a very good set of remade games. And it's worth plugging into a sound system (the remixed themes sound just amazing!).
