View Full Version : Wow - Guilty Gear 2 looks awful. What happened?

Destructoid has linked to the first gameplay footage of Guilty Gear 2. For those that didn't already hear the bad news, the game has gone entirely 3D and is no longer a fighter. No, I didn't make that up.
I was leaving some hope out that it actually could've been decent. That is until I saw the first gameplay video. What the hell is actually going on here? And, considering the small, but dedicated GG fanbase, why totally change the genre? It just doesn't make sense.
This is equivalent to Gran Turismo becoming an RPG. It's just that stupid.

I....I cried a bit. I can only hope that Accent core is worthy of being the last of the Guilty Gear series, because that wasn't GG. That was some bastard son of Monster Hunter.

I'm sure I'm going to be in the minority on this one, but I actually thought that looked pretty good.
It's very...odd that they decided to release this under the Guilty Gear name and not as a completely new franchise, yet somehow I just can't get myself to criticize them for it.
Weird indeed.

I suspect it was the quality of the video that made the game look bad. I doubt they'll ever release a game with ps1 quality graphics like that.

I liked Accent Core, when I played it a few months ago.
But, GG not being a fighter. Well that doesn't make any sense.

This new game looks something akin to Dynasty Warriors. Such a thing has a potential to be fun.

it looks a bit like Bounty Hounds (especially the dashing) mixed with GG. I am interested but I still what to grabe one of the devs by the collar and scream at them

Nope, that's certainly not even close to what's running on the Naomi cab atm. Guilty Gear XX #Reload is looking very 2D to me. I'm just going to pretend I didn't see that.

I really couldn't tell you. It was an Import and I only got to play while I was visiting friends on vacation.

Yeah, heard about GG2 Overture. Ain't too impressed, but hey, not my type of game.
GGXX Accent core IS a fighter AND my type of game, but I shall await the Wii version so I can get my pretty graphics along with my fighting fix.
They robbed the game of its 2D roots. Its just another ugly 3D pos now. Damn I hate 3D games... :(

if this was a 2d to 3d version of GG the fighter i'd be more optimistic. neo geo did an awesome job thie KoF: MI and MI2. but this is a spin off that i'll have to wait on. i hope this is a one shot deal though and they go back to fighters or better yet do a psp to console port of Judgement

Wow. That's something you don't see here everyday. Waiting for the Wii version because of the "improved" graphics.
The screenshots look exactly the same to me. The hands-on previews seem to agree that there is no graphical difference between the Wii and PS2 versions. In fact IGN says the Wii version looks ugly in 480p.
