What do you guys suggest? IS there a site like dvdaficianado or something but only for games - especially nes? That would let me record what manuals, boxes, etc I have?

I believe www.nintendoage.com was working on such an online collection tracker.

Nearly Exactly what I need

Only twist of what I want - is if there is a way where I can preload ALL the games then just check them off as I get them?

Not sure if anything like that exists but it seems like it would be quite user friendly

Do you mean if there's a way you can add games you get later? That's what the wishlist is for. Once you get a game, you can move it from your wishlist to your collection.

I mean...

ok, like this link:

http://www.rfgeneration.com/PHP/checklists.php?ID=U-027;style=viewing

It has all the Games already preloaded - a column for cart, manual, box, and comments....

I want all that done in advance - but a program that allows me to place X's in the proper column when I get the game - or let me type in comments in that space - Rather than just having to print this off and do it all by hand

Wondering if any programs or Sites offered such a thing

Then you want this: http://www.rfgeneration.com/cgi-bin/collection.pl?action=FAQ&finduser=true&folder=Collection

that does not appear to preload all of the NES games for me..so all i have to do is check them off, it makes it sound like anything i add will be all that is in my list, i want them all to be in my list and to just check off what i have

Well, you can search through the database and check off the games as you browse through them. Then you can add in info and comments on your games, and have them added to your collection.

I used to keep all my collection info in a spreadsheet... typed it all in by hand. I always felt that doing things by hand (Rather than just clicking check-boxes) helped me memorize things. I could almost list off my whole collection without looking at anything. Eventually I lost the spreadsheet in a hard drive crash and have yet to rebuild it. Since then, I've really lost touch with what stuff I have for most of my systems and often have to look through shoeboxes to make sure I don't have a game before I buy it.

If any of you want me to email the attachment in word that i made up today - i will....its not fancy, its a table with all the NES games typed up....figured it will be easy to place a check or number count in the column - cart, manual, box.... so i can tell if i have it and if i do - how many - also put a column for comments - where of course I can note conditions - and/or accessories such as maps, etc...

if anyone would want me to send an attachment of it so you can use it in word, feel free... just seems to be logical for me to use this method (only problem is accessing it elsewhere) which is the benefit of the online website style of course

I recommend just downloading master lists in .TXT format (the most common and portable format..) and checking items off with *s and what not. I think this is the best method since .TXT files are readable on a ton of devices. I've got a PSP I can take with me to my storage unit and edit the file on the fly if need be. :)

I've never understood the allure of internet lists, they seem a bit limiting (in terms of accessing them). But to each his own I suppose.

For NES games there are two great master lists I can name off hand:
Mike Etlers List (oldie but goodie)
NGD's Game List (up to date and extremely in depth)

If you're going to do that then just carry a DP Collectors Guide in your trunk. It could use some extra check boxes for manuals, ect. though. Other than that it works great for me.

EDIT: Didn't we have a thread on suggestions for the next guide? I should suggest that if nobody else has. It may be too late by now though. I'm searching for the thread but I can't find it, anybody have a link?

I second that. It's the best program. You can even get info from the web stores.
Also www.vgrebirth.org does the thing nicely.

I use vgrebirth.com, too. From what I can tell, it has the information you want but might not be organized in the way you're describing.

All you have to do is add all the NES games to your collection and than print it off. When you get a game check it off your printed list.

I have a pretty decent excell document. I have tried to put all the alternate carts(major variants ie. gray and gold zelda, both metroid label variants) as well as a smallish space for notes. It has a place beside the name to check off the cart as well as collumns for box and manual. It also has the relase dates for all the licenced carts. It also uses Mike Etlers rating system for rarity. The Unlicenced carts are broken into there own catagory by company, where as the licenced ones are in alphabetical order. That was done so you could see if you have a complete licenced collection. I was getting mad because I wanted a list that had them broken in two catagories but didn't want two lists.I print mine out.

I will email it to anybody that wants it. Unless somebody wants to host it. Just PM in the board. I will try to do it as fast as I get them.

One last thing though. Please understand that this list is a work in progress. there might be a few minor mistakes. Let me know if you find any.
