Actually Nintendo has been doing this kind of crap for YEARS. Nintendo has become all about stupid gimmicks and they've been all about stupid gimmicks since like 1998. I mean yeah the other companies are bad about it too (Eyetoy) but Nintendo is the King of Gimmicks.

I mean yeah the other companies are bad about it too (Eyetoy) but Nintendo is the King of Gimmicks.
At least the EyeToy came with (most of) the games that required it and their retail prices weren't jacked up. Well, other than they were all pretty much $20-$40 games selling at $60 and a bunch of them were never available without the EyeToy included (AntiGrav was my first duplicate EyeToy...but not my last :( ).
the Kung Fu minigame in Play made it all worthwhile, though.
VVVV- some people like Zelda! (a lot)

nintendo wants everyone to own all of their products, so of course they make certain cool aspects only available to people who own all of them.
four swords sucked single player, i'm sure it'd be fun multi, but who knows 3 other people with 3 gbas and has 4 cables. pshhh, go fuck yourself nintendo.

You forgot to show the television and the remote for the television. That adds $500 right there. Plus your monthly electric bill. Geez what is Nintendo trying to pull?

I guess I just don't see the point here. Nintendo made a game that requires extra hardware to play. I didn't see all the up in arms comments about needing an extra $60 guitar controller for two player in guitar hero. At least the GBA can play other games. Don't want to buy the required hardware? Don't play the game.
Fuckin Sony requiring me to buy a PS3 to play PS3 games! WTF!?

If the $335 was for a single add-on that only worked with 4 Swords and maybe one or two other games, I could see your point. But I think the scenario of having a GC with a memory card and compnent cable and a GBA and a freind with a GBA (all of which was surely not purchased solely for 4 Swords) is quite common.
I can only assume the OP was being sarcastic.
"Nintendo makes me buy consoles and games just so I can play stuff. How greedy!"

Where did you buy it from? Any half decent store would have warned you of what you needed.
That being said, it IS on the box. Ever bought a PC game without checking to see if your computer fit the requirements? Darn you Bethesda! I have to buy a $200 video card, $150 worth of RAM, and a new $300 processor to play your game!
I'm sure that they didn't intend for you to buy all the GBAs and the cords, it's more like call your friends over and play.

The point here is that you don't need 4 gbas/cables to play it. Sure it helps, but if you're a gamer, you have the Gamecube, the GBA, possibly the cable (but realistically $10 isn't that much). As you pointed out, you already bought a second GBA cause it had a brighter screen, so realistically, you paid $15 for two connector cables, $20 for the clearance game, and $40 for a component cable you don't need.
If you were 12 years old and buying this off your allowance, I'd understand, but you already had this stuff already. Stop complaining about it.

WOW…It’s amazing how quickly this got turned around on me. Is this my fault?
And to the “it's more like call your friends over and play” comment, it’s not like I have too many gamer friends. I’m a 30-year-old electrician that’s married. Going to work asking my co-workers for a spirited Friday night game of Zelda would be suicide. :)
My problem is buying all the components and attempting to play through a 4-player made game with only two people. Games like this were made for you to have gamer friends. More gamer friends = less money spent.
In your defense, going out of your way and buying all the extras to play a multi player game with your wife is understandable.
But my suggestion would be to stay away from the 4-player games, espcially ones that require more than regular controllers or a multi-tap if you only ever have two players. Stick to the slew of multi-player games that 2 can sit down and enjoy and that require no extra BS.

The fact is that own it or no, this game requires too much stuff to play.
If you want to claim that there are just too many moving parts to get it going, I don't think everyone would get up in your grill about it. It was the part where you complained about how much it all cost, when you actually owned most of the parts to begin with was where the wheels fell off your rant.

If any of you guys are true Zelda fans then you will see that this is one of the greatest things Nintendo ever did. Four Swords is amazing, basically multiplayer Link to the past. Why does everyone look at this game like everyone should own all equipment necessary to play? Everyone owns a gameboy advance so basically the only extra costs is for each person to own their own gc/gba cord.
So unless you don't already own a gcn and your own gba maybe you shouldn't get the game so you don't have to blow $335.
BTW, did I mention that this game is fun as hell and is one of the best things Nintendo has ever done.

I work at a video game store and I can tell you that I would have sold that whole lot to you for at least 100$ cheaper, used, but in perfect condition and guaranteed mind you. I part-time at another game place that's even cheaper.
Four Swords with 4 players is damn cool and worth it IMO.
Now that you have the 4 swords setup, you can also play Crystal Chronicles and use the tingle tuner in Wind Waker and play the Island and also NES games in Animal Crossing :)

Your got most of the items right but I think you forgot to include a few items that helped bring those expenses together.
1.your cost of car/truck/van/rv
2.the cost of gas in your vehicle
3.the cost of the food you ate the day you drove all over town tracking down each item
4.the cost of paying 1-3 total strangers to come in your house, play your stuff, and pretend they enjoy your company (this issue wouldnt exist if you had friends who were also gamers and would bring their stuff over instead of expecting you to buy spare systems for them to play on vs the systems they own)
Looking at those prices, your right. Nintendo is a greedy company (and evil) for pulling a gun on you and your family and forcing you to buy their 2600 hardware.
I'm being a jerk and I think everyone can see that. You list off a bunch of complaints about how vile Nintendo is for somehow making you pay so much money so you can have a multi-player experience for just one of their titles yet fail to see how at no point are you required to buy the vast majority of the stuff listed. Everything you list is the same for every company. If you want to play NES games you need a NES system. If you want to play PS3 games you need a PS3. If you want to play said games on those systems, you also need a controler. You also need a power cord. A means to hook it to your TV. Listing each and every single expense posible is very stupid. Now you want to say your only joking about it. A joke's a joke but you do little to prove your anything more then a fanboy on a rant.

Come on man…that’s absurd.
Everyone has a TV and electricity (at least most do…but that’s another story). Not everyone has 4 GBA’s and connector cables. Apples and oranges my friend...The fact is that own it or no, this game requires too much stuff to play.
Everyone who is going to play the game we presume already has a Gamecube and the necessary video connections. Is there a reason there are two sets of video cables in your picture? And I'm being absurd?

Well, it is a well known fact that there's a secret society of the five wealthiest people in the world, known as The Pentavirate, who run everything in the world, including the newspapers, and meet tri-annually at a secret country mansion in Colorado, known as The Meadows.
This Pentavirate consists of The Queen, The Vatican, The Gettys, The Rothschilds, and Hiroshi Yamauchi before he retired from Nintendo. Oh, I hated Hiroshi Yamauchi with his wee beady eyes, and that smug look on his face. "Oh, you're gonna buy my Zelda Four Swords game! Ohhhhh!"

For the most part the GC had no online gaming outlets so it basically came down to multiplayer, first party titles like this to push the system. Making it more difficult to play the titles (like Final Fantasy CC) only hurt the GC overall…
try.
So what you're saying is that Nintendo should have made this title online so each person would also have to buy a copy of the game as well as a headset so they can talk shit over their network.

This is the second time recently that I've seen a thread in which you have deleted some of your comments. If this is the way you are always going to respond to people disagreeing with you, you are going to have an even harder time engaging them meaningfully. Because *you* fail to communicate with others doesn't mean there is "an obvious lack of intelligence". There are some intelligent people on DP, and some rather not-intelligent people, just like you would find in any other public gathering.
Humor can be especially hard to communicate. We are supposed to understand that the "look at all the crap I have to buy" picture is hyperbole, but when I make the comment "Plus your monthly electric bill" you take it seriously.
As much as I get frustrated with some of the people here, my belief as that most of our members are worth talking to.
