Friday my friend and I where cleaning the garage and my friend found his Amiga 500 it was complete in the box. He was a programmer for the computer back then in the 80s. Well anyhow he gave it to me and ive been having lots of fun with the amiga. I wanted to know which where the best games for the amiga.

Oh man, there are hundreds of awesome Amiga games. How I freakin' love this computer:

All Psyclapse/Psygnosis games (SOTB, Agony, Awesome..etc)
All Cinemaware titles
Space Ace & Dragon's Lair

This is nothing in the way of an extensive list, but it's a start. I really wish there was a Digital Press Vintage Computing guide. Then you'd be able to read a small caption of what the game is about...like we have in the great console guides.

I only have 1 Amiga game, The Perfect General. I've never played it but it looks pretty awesome. One day I'll finally get a system or just install an emulator on a PC and give it a run. It's either a real or turn-base strategy game by the way.

Check out Hall of Light's Top 99 (http://hol.abime.net/hol_top99.php). There are a whole bunch of porno titles that made it to that list for some reason (seriously people, there's better sources of porn on the internets than 20 year old Amiga games), but just ignore them and you have a good list.

Some of my favorites:

Xenon 2: Megablast
Turrican 2
Alien Breed
Lotus III
Moonstone
Ultima V
Superfrog

I used to enjoy spending hours playing castles. Kind of a sim-type builder crossed with Warcraft- style battles (original Warcraft) , I thought it was a pretty good game.

I'd say if it has Psygnosis on the box, go for it: Menace, Blood Money, Lemmings, Shadow of the Beast... you name it. I also loved Dungeon Master at the time, but I don't know how well it's held up.

I'm a huge Amiga fan as well! Great to see this often neglected machine getting even a little recognition on these boards :)

Anyway, like many posters have already mentioned, Psygnosis could do absolutely no wrong with the Amiga: Shadow of the Beast I-II-III, Agony (epic!), Lemmings, etc...

Also, another company who released consistently quality titles was Team 17: Superfrog, Project X, Assasin, Body Blows, Alien Breed, Overdrive... I always thought that Psygnosis had the art, but Team 17 were always the top programmers for the Amiga, hands down.

Other games you absolutely need to play:
Turrican I-II-III (awesome action games, with the second one being a contender for best Amiga game ever IMO)
Moonstone (easily one of my favorite games of all time)
Apidya (can't believe this great shooter doesn't get mentioned more often. Also, Chris Huelsbeck's music is amazing)
Weird Dreams (one of the weirdest games you'll ever play)
Another World (very cinematic sci-fi adventure game)
Flashback (the "unofficial" sequel to Another World)
Pinball Dreams + Pinball Fantasies (some of the best pinball games you'll ever play)

Other gems, in no particular order:
The Chaos Engine
Wrath of the Demon
Quick'n'Silva
Cannon Fodder
Lotus II-III
D/Generation
Desert/Jungle/Urban Strike

Does anybody know if the Fred Fish compilation CD-ROM (or was there more than one?) is available somewhere?

I really really enjoyed fairy tale on the amiga, very unique and challenging game for its time, the genesis port is almost as good other then the shitastic password system (great on an emulator though)

Maybe it's just me, but I really don't like any of the Psygnosis releases of that era. It seems that they're all flash but no substance. Granted I've only played most of them on the FM Towns, but I don't think they've aged very well.

I've never been able to get into the Turrican series either, but I can recognize a well crafted game when I see one.
