This was already mentioned on page 4 of the official Halo 3 thread HERE (http://www.digitpress.com/forum/showthread.php?t=105326&page=4)
Any of you who pre-ordered or are planning on buying the Limited Edition may want to rethink your purchase or at least make sure you check your game before leaving the store. Apparently the game case for the DVD contains a cheap plastic nub to hold the DVD and it apparently is too small, causing the DVD to fall off and rattle around inside, and resulting in scatched discs.

I can attest to this as all three of the LE boxes that arrived at my store a few days ago had loose discs in them I'm just hoping customers are still happy with them

I dunno, it sounds like the problem is overblown to me. I've bought lots of new PS1/PS2/Xbox games where the disc popped loose and they were fine when I opened them up.
I'm not saying that people are making this up, but the reports I hear are making it sound like it's 100% certain that your disc will be scratched up if you bought a a LE version. I'm sure it has happened to a few people but not as many as they make it out to be.
Of course, my Halo 3 LE disc will now probably be scratched to hell when it arrives in the mail.

If this is true the yell of millions of 13 year olds will be heard around the world and them pounding their skinny fists will cause earthquakes and mass destruction.

I can attest to this, I purchased my collectors edition at midnight and when I got home and opened it up my play disk had fallen off the spindle and had a few scratches, cleaned it off and it does not seem to affect the game play.

I purchased mine, opened it at the store and both discs were definitely scratched. It's a shame because this isn't the retailer's fault. Drexel923 of Next Level Videogames was gracious enough to professionally buff both discs for me right there and give me two sleeves to put my discs in. The sleeves fit nicely inside the metal tin.
Someone didn't think hard enough about this when it was designed. Especially on the biggest release of the year! :monkey:

You would seriously think Microsoft would hire better engineers to design their packaging... (not to mention their systems)...
there is no excuse for this!

Maybe those engineers are one-in-the-same.

happened to me, essentials disc is scratched up pretty bad, game disc has some hairline scratches
why not have a non-scientific poll
can OP add that to this thread?

I got one today. My game disc was still attached nice and snug, and hadn't fallen off the nub during shipment.
The bonus disc did, however. But fortunately it wasn't scratched. It had a small smudge, and it wiped right off.

both my play and bonus discs were off their spindles and scratched. i'm not happy, but i don't really care enough to return them. halo is far from a "collector's" game, you buy this one to play, not keep on your shelf to look pretty :)

I got the Collector's Edition and my discs were scratched, but they still play fine... I might send mine back but I'm not sure...

I got mine today as well. This tin really is a piece of shit. After fighting with it to actually get it open, I found both discs off their nubs. The game disc only had one little patch of hairline, shallow scratches so I don't care too much. The bonus disc is scratched to hell, though, so I may get that one switched out as I won't miss it while it's gone lol.
Honestly, who in the hell designs a case like this that won't clasp shut?

I'll tell you who: the financial officers.
Reading the stories about this mess and disappointment with the Legendary Edition as well, it is strikingly clear what happened. Knowing full well how many millions would sell, they say the opportunity to bring in alot more money by making this "special editions" extremely cheap, selling them for much more profit than the normal ones.
Guranteed, this is exactly what transcribed behind the scenes:
"Frank: Hey let's bundle the game with an extra disc that could have already come with it, add a crap case and charge $10 more for merely nothing on our part."
"Bob: Why stop at that? Why don't we bundle it with a $10 piece of plastic and a couple more discs and charge $40 extra?"
"Frank: You are a genius! But how about we charge $70 extra for that one?"
"Bob: Good call, what the hell was I thinking?"

I was thinking about this post at work today. This is what popped into my head
Maybe Microsoft traded their "Big ass console developer guy" to Sony for their "Design faulty products guy" and an employee to be named later.
Oh well, at the very least, they are replacing them. But, shit like this with Microsoft's flagship series should never happen. Just adds to the embarrassing system replacement campaign. Finish the Fight I guess.

I got the LE version. The discs were loose inside, but they were perfect and not scratched. I guess I dodged a bullet.
