I've finally decided to collect the GTA games, and I really want the Xbox versions with improved graphics and custom soundtracks.
Now it did come in a really convenient 3-pack about two years ago called "The Trilogy"... but unfortunately that pack is now rather hard to find. Ironically the PS2 version is still in print and found in stores. Thanks for killing off the Xbox market so soon Microsoft. I'm mean I'm having trouble finding a fair copy of GTA... for the Xbox..... bizarro land....? (I want all the packaging if possible).
I'm kinda curious if this pack features re-done cover art for San Andreas to match the simple GTAIII and Vice City covers from the double pack (lacking an Xbox top bar), or if they just stuck the retail verson in a box with the Double Pack GTAs.
If so that sounds kinda uneven anyway.. and I'll just get the Double Pack + San Andreas separately.
Also as an aside.... do any Xbox copies of SA contain Hot Coffee? Or did the controversy happen before it was ported and released?

Looks to me like it's in a gatefold, no individual DVD cases.

So it's basically 3 individual gatefolds. I see.

Ah thanks guys.... Suddenly my decision and leg-work is a lot easier. I want green Xbox style cases, so GTA Double Pack + San Andreas for the win.

Oh woah.... the link wasn't the same when I first looked at it. The Trilogy is one self contained thing with 3 trays on different pages. The Double Pack is the one with different cases. When it loaded the first time I looked at the link I coulda swore thats the image that loaded.

The first pressing did have the Hot Coffee code, but to get to it, you have to have a modded Xbox so you can put it on your hard drive, and then you have to import some files with changed codes to unlock HC.
Not really worth the hassle to see some awful computer porn, and it tends to mess the game up. If you're dying to have the version with HC in it, it should be pretty easy to find though.

Hold on, GTA games are collectable? I can find all but Stories for $3-5, GTA: LCS is around $10-20. They are also dirt common as I find them everywhere, matter of fact I'm suprised to not find one. It's like stumbling across a pile of 2600 games and not finding E.T.. I'm not saying they're bad games just in another few years they'll be $1 or a dime a dozen everywhere and in 15 years they'll be $20 at some wakko game shop claiming it's "RARE" and "COLLECTABLE".

Well yes, I want the games, I want them in the best version, and I want them in the original packaging. That is the extent that I am collecting them. I would never dare say "rare"....
But "collectable"?... yeah. I want to play them and have them all. That's why people usually collect things... monetary value or rarity has very little to do with personal enjoyment, or the desire to have a personal collection of something for later use.
And how many of those bargain bin copies have the complete booklet, map, case and packaging in good condition? Precious few I'd think. I lot of care-nothing thugs owned that game :P And I just don't want it to look like a piece of shit on my shelf, or when I pop open the box to play it or read the manual....

Right. I find used GTA games all over the place for $5 on average, mostly the PS2 ones. Yet every last one of these copies is missing a map, a manual or it comes in a generic game case. I even have a hard time finding a 100% complete copy of a GTA game, one in good shape, at places like Gamestop which specialize in used video games.
Heck, I grabbed a loose copy of Vice City for PS2 that came in a clear cd jewel case for $1 a couple weeks back at a music store I frequent where some bozo clerk took it in believing it was a soundtrack cd and had to mark it down to $1 to get rid of it, since they don't take games in trade.
Even though there are a couple dozen copies of GTA III for PS2 around here, spread out amongst four or five stores nearby, I still had to buy 2 copies early this summer just to get a complete game. The one copy that had everything with it (for $4) had a ruined disc and I had to buy a disc/case only copy at another store for $2 just to get a good disc for the complete copy.
I actually own the GTA Trilogy pack for XBox, minus all of the manuals and minus the San Andreas disc which I have to buy separately (and it will probably have to be some other version, not the Trilogy disc). My local pawn shop received it incomplete from a patron and they took it assuming someone might buy it for $5, even though it was missing one disc and all of the inside documents. They were right, since I bought it. I got 2 sweet games and a pretty good little black case for $5. As for the missing maps, it doesn't matter a whit, since I know how to play the GTA games pretty well and know my way around the streets. I prefer having maps for games that don't hold your hand all the way to the next destination by highlighting it in flashing colors on a map LOL
Casual/mainstream gamers take even worse care of GTA games than they do Madden games.

If anyone needs a free GTA map, I have some that I can give. I stopped at a flea market awhile back and some guy was selling Xbox, PS2 and Gamecube cases for 10 cents each. I bought $25 dollars worth and when I got them home I noticed that each one had all the original contents still in the case - minus the disc. Quite a few were GTA's, so I have a lot of spare maps. Can't remember which GTA's they were, but if you need a map I can check to see if it's one you need.

I could use either a PS2 Vice City map or manual, not because I need them but for posterity (to complete my PS2 copy).

Well I just checked and there were a couple of GTA III's and GTA:SA's, but not a single Vice City. Sorry

I paid $29.99 for a used complete copy of the Trilogy for Xbox and don't regret the the price I paid. It's actually the only one I have seen here locally since they were new. I see the double pack pop up all the time, but the trilogy is tough to find. I have had many offers from friends here locally to buy it and thought they were crazy, but the more I think about it, it is hard to come by.
