View Full Version : Converting Adam cassettes to images?

I have a few Adam cassettes that I'd like to convert to images that can be used in MESS or other Adam Emulators. Does anyone know of an application capable of doing this or have any experience in how this is done? Unfortunately, my Adam is no longer functioning, so I most likely will not be able to perform the conversions myself. Do you know anyone that would provide this service? I'd be willing to pay for this service, or possibly trade some classic gaming equipment (I have some Vectrex consoles I'm willing to part with).

Thanks in advance!

I always assumed that the datasette "ROM" images for old computers were actually just audio files with special extensions, but I guess I don't know actually.

I have a C64 emulator for Dreamcast that uses tape games(in addition to floppy disk games) so it should be possible. There are a lot of emulator web sites(even Digital Press has one!)so keep hunting and posting until you get a positive response!

Thanks for the replies!

Just to clarify, these are Adam Digital Data Packs with home brew BASIC games, stories etc., not published games like Dragon's Lair or Subroc (which, BTW, work well in MESS).

I tried the email address linked in the interview, but received a delivery failure. I'll keep at it, and any advice is welcome.

I remember that the VCS cassette tapes for the super charger were just .wav files. Dunno if that helps in your case, though.

No luck so far, so I thought I'd give the thread a bump. :help:

I can in good faith tell you that Kevin Horton probably isn't the one to ask about Adam related questions. Despite his development of Kevtris and his work in the Colecovision scene, I can reasonably say that he has little to do with the workings of the Adam. I can also say that any irrelevant emails sent to him will likely go unanswered...

There is a utility called tapeconv on this page that will do it for you.

However, it requires a working Adam and a disk drive, which is very rare. I don't know of a way to do it without the Adam.

As they are "Digital Data Packs", it is certainly quite safe to assume that they are substantially different from the likes of the Supercharger and the C64 tapes.
