I've been trying to get my Genesis collection 100% complete for a while now. Except for Miracle Piano which I have decided not to get complete, the only thing I need is the manual for James Pond II. Or do I?
I've bought this game several times over now and been pissed when it didn't have the manual. But does this game even have a regular manual? It seems highly likely to me that the manual for this game is in the form of a poster. Does anyone have a standard style manual for this game?
Also the game Flicky. The manual I have is a trifold pamphlet style manual. Is this correct? I can't remember seeing a proper manual for Flicky. Does anyone have one of these?
Pictures if you have them would be great too, thanks!

The manual I have for Flicky is a horizontal, multi-language manual, as seen in many European SMS games (and I guess Mega Drive games too). I definitely don't have the European version of the game, as the box and cart both have the US Genesis logo on them. The back of the box is also in many languages despite the Genesis logo (and American style UPC) -- is yours like that?
The manual itself, interestingly, does not bear the system's logo, and in the intro "set up" section, it uses the phrase "Mega Drive/Genesis system". I don't think I have a European manual, because what is clearly a North American box has the same languages, plus I'm not aware of any Europe-specific Mega Drive manuals making reference to "Mega Drive/Genesis" (rather than simply 'Mega Drive'). So I'm inclined to conclude that Sega just used one manual for both North America and Europe for some reason. The cartridge itself is universal, if I'm not mistaken.
As for why Sega would use the same manual (and, essentially, packaging, as only the logo and UPC are different at all) for the European and North American prints of this game, I don't know, but it may be vaguely related to the fact that Flicky for Genesis came out at around the same time as the final US SMS releases (which used the same manuals as in Europe).

I believe the horizontal manuals are a canadian thing as I have a copy of greendog that has the sideways manual but I know there is a standard looking manual.

I have a copy of James Pond II and it comes with a fold out instruction book, which has a wallchart / poster of James Pond II on the other side. I have it for sale in my ebay shop at the moment and you can just make out the instructions. see link below:

I looked forever for the james pond 2 manual too. Loved playing this game from when it first came out and never saw a manual for it back then. The manual is a poster type one. It unfolds on 1 side to show the height of james pond (since he stretches in the game). Other side hasthe instructions. Guess most places that bought the game threw it out figuring it was a poster or junk and not a real manual. As for Flicky, that's one of the few manuals I need for a complete sega collection too. Not sure if regular style manual or not. Maybe someone here has the USA version because soemtimes Sega sold those megadrive games with genesis stickers over the top of the label.

Reviving a week or so old thread:
Yes, the USA released Flicky had a fold out type of manual, black and white no less. It's really cheesy for a manual, but I guess Sega didn't bid on this being a big seller (except to those who loved the arcade version) as well as didn't think the game really needed much of a manual at all. I purchased this title in the USA back then, and that is the manual that it came with.
