I picked up this game a while back and I am wondering about it? Does anyone know it's origins? It's kind of interesting because it's somewhat similar to the SNES original but lacks the special graphic effects. Check the youtube clip of the gameplay (not my video...)

Wow, it's like the bastard child of all three DKC games. It certainly is a neat idea, incorporating ideas and elements from all three games, but the execution is HORRIBLE.

Good lord, it was like the music and sound effects were actually raping my speakers. O.o

The screaming enemies would make the game unplayable for me....horrible.

At least it looks remarkably good.

It looks very good, but it is one of the worst sounding gensis games I've every heard.

Had to be the biggest waste of time I've ever seen, lamo. Makes you wonder what those programmers were thinking.

Cool find!
I played the ROM and was amazed. Just think of how it might have been if it was made by a serious company with enough time and manpower...

You are not selling it by any chance?

Donkey Kong 99?

The question begs to be asked ... what happened to Donkey Kong...er...hmm...well, we know the first THREE .... so, what happened to Donkey Kong 4 through 98?

Absolute quality, gotta love those Hong Kong Originals.

How far have you actually managed to play into the game? And is it a complete game, or does it only actually have a few complete playable levels like NES SMW?

Other than the absolutely horrid audio, this actually looks pretty good for a HKO.

Actually I've played very little of it. I'm not overly keen on the DKC series on the SNES, so this "derivitive" version is even less interesting to me. I find it more to be sort of an oddity than something I'll play for any length of time....

Perhaps someone who has this cart, and has played through it can provide some info ? :-)

There's an NES/FC port of DKC that's pretty interesting, too. I've played the ROM. It looks nice, it's just not fun (I've never been big into DKC).

BTW-the pirate NES Biohazard link on that page seems pretty cool, actually. Watch it until Jill encounters a zombie. How they did the fighting is kind of interesting, actually.

have played the game, graphics great but sound horrible. But give credit where due. If it wasn't for those HK pirates, we'd never have these funky games. Look at the MK mythologies for genesis

The graphics are pretty nice in the Genesis bootleg, but the animation is horrible. The level designs are a mess, too. So is the audio.

I watched the videos of the NES bootleg and it seems to be a direct port of the original SNES version. I'm fairly impressed!

Yeah, DKC on the NES looks pretty damn good. Final Fight 3 and Biohazard look pretty cool too.

I'd love to see what sort of original Famicom game these Chinese guys could come up with, given the proper funding and working environment.

The screenshots look nice, but the animation and music are terrible.

Its just a small example that the genesis was capable of having games as colorful as the snesīs when a good programmer was involved (like in Ex-Ranza, Gunstar Heroes, sonic, etc)

The graphics are good in that Donkey Kong Country bootleg for the Genesis (excluding the poor animation), but there aren't as many colors being displayed as the SNES version. Look at the sky in the background, for example. The SNES version features a nice gradient with soft clouds, while the Genesis one is a flat shade of blue with three-color clouds.

It's definitely a nice effort, but the SNES version is still a bit better looking.

Yes, of course the snes version of DK looked better than the genesis version. Its natural that RARE UK had better programmers than a HK pirate company :)

What I tried to say is that the genesis was able to have colorful games too, but it took an experienced team to show it

Colourful games yes, but never at the same level as Seiken Densetsu 3 and the like. There are Genesis games reaching the SNES standard in colours, but it is very rare. I would say Monster World IV and Panorama Cotton is among the few.

Iīd add Ranger-X, gunstar heroes, sonic 1 2 3, ristar, pulseman, and those are just in the top of my memory

I played the ROM of this a while back. Not the worst bootleg I ever played (HAPPY ANGEL, a hacked version of the NES Tiny Toon Adventures game), but also not the best (Pokemon Diamond, better known as Keitai Denjuu Telefang)

I usually figured they were ports of the Game Boy versions, actually.

For instance, as that video's descriptive text says, that fighting system is from the Resident Evil GBC game.

That SMW Hack looks cool. Anyone know where to get the ROM of that?

The audio, its like the laughter of children, it just cuts threw me like a knife. Anyway I want to find Donkey Kong 99, becuase I've been primarily a Genesis collector for five or six years now and am only 30-some-odd titles away from a complete US collection, some F'n day, some F'n day I'll have them all.

Good point. I had forgotten Donkey Kong Country and Resident Evil: Gaiden were released for the Game Boy Color. The NES bootleg of Donkey Kong Country has better graphics and looks a bit different though. Hummer Team, whoever that is, did a great job.
