Well here's something I've been waiting for. Looks like the 65nm units are starting to get out there. Now lets see if these ever start getting the RRoD.

I've been waiting for 65nm 360s too, but I'll wait and let somebody else decide if they're really much more reliable first.

Also, need to get some more money before I jump after one...

This is great news if these things really are more quiet. I'm more interested in that, than anything else. I'll wait until they trickle down into the general channel. I'm guessing, by February 2008, all new units will be 65nm.

This should have been done at launch even if it delayed things a bit or raised the cost. If done right this should significantly improve: noise thank god will be less, system should run cooler as well as quieter. And it should use less power as well.

In order: less power, less heat, and maybe less noise. Remember that the fan solution on the 360 right now isn't really saving enough 360s - a quieter fan would mean it's not pushing as much air, and you're potentially back to burned-up 360s.

I'm still waiting for confirmed reliability. I'm thinking improved heatsinks and solder will also help.

How does this confirm the 65nm chips?

How does this confirm the 65nm chips?

It doesn't. This is just circumstantial evidence that something has changed. If the entire motherboard is changed, however, this just might be the new hardware finally. I'm going to wait until one of these hardware sites takes a much closer look at the internals. It's the only way to know if this is indeed the new stuff.

The evidence is looking good :)

I don't see enough proof here. All that i see is some changed heat sinks. The lsat time Microsoft changed the heat sinks there was no 65 NM chips. So as of rite now I think that this is just another attempt at releaving heat. Maybe these heat sinks get rid of heat better? Who knows I know I don't?

The rumors I've heard is that the first so-called "65nm boards" that will be released will only have 65nm main processors, while the video chips will be the same as ever... since it's the video chips that seem to be the main problem, I really wouldn't get too excited about this just yet.

No the video chips arent the problems it is the CPU/GPU the CPU/GPU contribute to the video malfunctions. And the ever so popular 3 red lights is also from the CPU/GPU lifting off the board from the intense heat. The video card/chips are fine as of now.

GPU = video "card/chip"

I stand corrected

Good "news" I guess, but I'll wait until there is concrete evidence, and then some. I want to make sure the Elite I buy has the smaller chip die for sure! :)

the 65 nm CPU is not doing anything good there was a dead halo edition 360 on maxconsole, I think MS need to shrink/retweak the GPU.. I am holding off till christmas 2008 now to get a 360 again.

I stand corrected

Before anyone else decides to quote my Post and have a remark. I am sorry I had read the question wrong and answered in a hurry because I was in class and decided to check up on this topic. If anyone hasn't seen it yet I have already said I stand corrected and admit to the fact that i was wrong.

Well it seems the 65nm falcon chips are "officially" here. The 360 board over at CAG (http://www.cheapassgamer.com) has links to pictures and manufacturing dates (via serial numbers). It's about as "official" as we're going to get.
