http://www.engadget.com/2007/09/29/rock-band-gets-official-pricing-ship-date-details/

For some reason I thought Rock Band would come packaged like Guitar Hero with just the game and the guitar, with the drum kit, mic, and extra guitar as add-ons. This makes more sense to me as one could play through the game with the guitar and buy the other peripherals later. $169.99 is nearly the price of a Wii. Sheesh. Not bad for what you are getting, but I hope they will have alternate packages.

This is actually better than the projected $199 price :) Yes it is expensive but the pocketbook pinch is a bit more gentle with this set price of $169 (plus tax).

That's awesome, I was expecting to pay $200 like everyone else.

Now I just have to see if I want to abandon the 360 version for the PS3 version. I already have 1 guitar for the 360, and will be buying GH3, but the wireless guitar for the ps3 sounds awesome. We'll see, probably get the 360 because my friends will have that version.

Rock on!

PS2 version of Rock Band is going to be $159.99 I heard

I suppose if you're a massive fan of rhythm games the price is justifiable, but I don't think any of my friends are going to be into this enough to warrent a purchase.

But yeah, I was thinking a 199 price tag myself, so this is good news for those looking forward to it.

I'm still wondering... Will I be able to use my Guitar Hero guitar? And a USB Microphone?

I already have those, and only need the drum set and the game.

I sincerely hope this means the UK will be getting it for under £100. I'm not confident, but hopeful.

I've been reading previews and keeping an eye on this game and I'm fairly excited about it. The only problem is I wont have anyone to play it with so I dont know if I'll pick it up or not.

I just wanted to play through the game as a bassist, then have the option to buy other instuments. There's no way I'm paying $170 for a fucking game.

All I want is the drums. The only songs on the soundtrack that interest me are "Tom Sawyer", "Highway Star' and "Gimme Shelter".

Surely they're also selling the game and instruments individualy, right?

I'm surprised that no one else has mentioned this, but it's only forty bucks more than a lot of people just shelled out for a game and a helmet that has no practical purpose whatsoever.

And the GH guitars WILL work with the game, but the Rock Band guitar has extra fret buttons higher up on the neck, so I'm not sure how that will work out.

I'm sure the game is going to be available with seperate instruments at a lower price. This is just for the full bundle.

Somebody mentioned USB microphone. I'm pretty sure that won't work, but the 360 headset will, although it might sound pretty crappy.

My last thought on this, is that if you want this, you better get it the day it comes out, and stand in line for it or whatever, cause I'm guessing this is going to be the tickle me Elmo of this holiday shopping season. Reason being, GameStop stockrooms only have so much space for inventory, and I can imagine this package taking up alot of space. Thus, I just don't see retailers having alot of these at any one given time. I fully expect to see these selling for a $100 premium on Ebay and Craigslist a few days after release. Especially the 360 version, cause I think that will be the most desired version.

as usual in Rip-off Britain, you're probably lucky to get a 1 - 1 conversion rate, eg $169.99 = GBP 169.99 ($350.00)

I dont seem to get this?? If creating a rock band has gotten this far, why not just buy real instruments and start a REAL band lol. Trust me guys its much more fun that way, plus its not as lame. Ill prolly play this is any of my friends buy it just to check it out, but there is no way i will buy this when i have a full Drum set at home, and a guitar and bass i play all the time lol.

Dunno...how long do you think it will take before my real band can belt out "Tom Sawyer"? ;-)

It's a video game, and games are fun. Learning how to play instruments in real life is rewarding, but is not an easy road. Wonder who plays all the cabelas games? People who like to hunt, because kids sure as hell aren't playing them.

Same here, I've already got a guitar and I don't want a mic.

Just consider why Madden is so popular. Anybody can grab a football and go to their backyard and toss it around, but people want to feel like they are in the real NFL. They want to live out their fantasy. Same thing with Rock Band. Anybody can get a drum set and bang on some drums, but Rock Band will give them the feeling of the real deal. (Well not exactly, but still, you get the drift)

Why play Gran Turismo or Forza or Need For Speed when you can just hop in your Civic or Corolla and head to the track and race? Real life driving is real excitment and such a rush. Plus the time wrenching and improving your car is rewarding when you are run better times at the track.

I don't understand the hate against the pricing. I think that $169 for the whole package is great. You get the game, a guitar, a mic AND the drum kit. For people that dont want all the instruments, they WILL be selling each instrument and the game seperately, so thus you could buy just the game and the drums, for instance. The package deal is for the person who wants ALL the instruments and you get a little cut in price if you buy them all in the package.

Eventually some crazy Japanese guy is going to Youtube his one-man band and show him self acing songs on expert mode while playing every instrument.

Anyone have confirmation on that? It wouldn't surprise me if, at least initially, you had to buy the whole thing.

I should have stated that, as far as the listings go on Gamestop and Amazon, the game will in fact be available seperately as will the instruments. Again, "according to those two sites" isnt concrete or anything, but it was the first time I saw that it was gonna be released seperately..

If the PS3 has wireless instruments and the Xbox 360 has wired instruments, there's no question that I'd go for the PS3 version. Has anybody heard anything as to whether the guitar that comes with the PS3 version will be compatible with the Guitar Hero games that came out for the PS2? That would be a nice little bonus.

Just wondering, has anyone heard if any stores are going to offer a preorder bonus for Rock Band? I love the price cut, but it's always nice to score some free trinkets as well if possible.

According to Gamespot now, the game and instruments will NOT be sold seperately until after the New Year. From now till then, its the bundle or nothing....

I had the feeling that was going to happen. I must admit I didn't think it would be for that long. Guess I'm passing on this one altogether.

Budgeted to the New Year it is then. I barely have enough room to store my GH guitar, where am I going to store the rest of those instruments?

Yup, I noticed that one! I have it preordered through Gamestop.com and they say if you order by 11/21 by 11AM, they guarantee that you have it on 11/23...hmmm, we'll see about that..
