Alright I'm sick of it. Cords getting tangled in themselves and other cords because they have too many bends in them. These things seem impossible to straighten out. :frustrated:

Is there is a good (and non-damaging) way to straighten out controller cords? (or any cord for that matter..) If so, someone pleeease enlighten me. Cords are evil in themselves but a cord that is all bent up is even worse.

You just have to have them uncoiled for a while, usually by just using them. The kinks will come out of them. If you store them by coiling them, try hanging them on hooks.

It's pretty hard to get a multi-conductor cable to straighten out once it's twisted up a bit. Like stated above, don't coil them around your controller, hand them up in some fashon to keep the cables straight.

The only thing that works for me is tightly running my fingers down the controller cord slowly. Sometimes this will straighten out the conductors inside the jacket.

If you have a large dog as a pet, then I recommend using this technique (http://www.break.com/index/how-to-untangle-mp3-headphones.html). Cats can't handle the controllers very well at all, but dogs can tear that shit up (http://www.gamepro.com/news.cfm?article_id=135508).

Straighten them out as much as possible and then set them outside in the sun. Every 20 minutes or so go re-straighten the cords. After about an hour you'll find the cords are once again flexible and any previous rigidity should be all but gone - just like new. I have yet to find a controller type (or any cord for that matter) that this didn't work with - from Atari VCS to PlayStation 2.

For future storage, coil cords in long loops (usually about the size of your hand) and then set the controller atop the coil. If you're going to do long term storage, zip tie the center of the coil to itself...

Once the zip tie is cut (or during the next usage if not tied) the coil will spring back out straight no problem at all.

This is exactly how I always store my controllers and coil the cords when I put them away after playing. I find it is much better for the cords, particularly where the cord connects to the controller.

Good, call, I wonder if light heat gun or hairdryer use would have the same effect. Come winter there's not much warm, direct sunlight to go around so that wouldn't always work here...

The exact controller that is bugging the hell out of me is a NES dogbone controller. I had it wrapped very tightly around the center of the controller and it sat in storage like that for a good 3+ years. I've had it out for weeks now and the cord is still screwed, I hung it over the rod that holds my shower curtain to see if gravity would do anything for it but that had little effect.

Thanks for the suggestions guys! I think I'll try a bunch of things, I'm even considering trying a blow dryer or some good old hot water.
