Yeah make sure you have tissue to wipe the tears because that game is funny as hell. A great under appreciated Rpg. Written by comedians:)

My wife has just started playing Bard's Tale on the XBox. I haven't played the game before and have a question. The graphics in the game seem to be from above the characters looking down like in Gauntlet. The pictures on the back of the box show a more Diablo like 3rd person point of view. Is there a way to change the game view to third person like the pictures on the box or are they only cut scene pictures?

It's only the PC version that includes the original Bard's Tale games, right?

(I've heard they're tough as nails.)

This was one of the funniest videogames that I've ever played. Wait until you get to the ending....just try and keep a straight face. Everyone should play this game.

This has to be one of the funniest video games I ever played. I put it down at times because I thought I was going to pee myself from laughing.

I bought this game complete, in great condition, from a friend of mine for a pack of cigarettes (the kid just turned 17) but I havent gotten around to playing it. But now that i've read this thread it looks like I might have to give it a go, because I just beat Oddworld: Abes Exxodus and havent started threw a new game yet.

If you've played Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, you will notice some similarities in the Bard's Tale story line. For example, taking on the rat problem in the bar's basement in the first level. I thought, "This seems so familiar, I think I've played this game before."
You may get that feeling a few times in the game.

this game is definitely worth a play through as it is quite humorous. always choose the snarky comments for the most fun. :)

If I remember right I think the screen shifts to that style when you fight enemies.

Hmmm. I've passed up on this game many times, just wasn't sure about it. Beginning to sound as if this is a must purchase and I'll need to check it out. Time to keep my eyes open and get it whenever.

and he does a great job voicing the Bard. I'm sure he was trying not to laugh while recording his lines.

THis is a great game that is running on the Baldurs Gate engine. It does not have a 3rd person of pov, but it is well worth playing and a lot of fun.

The original BT games included with the PC version are pretty tough in general...they're dungeon crawlers, which means that back in the day they required you to create your own maps on grid paper and all sorts of stuff. You can probably find much of it online nowadays.

That means, however, that the game will be that much more tedious - you will still need to get into a billion fights for your guys to get to the levels required to take on the "boss" fights.

It's also slow going to start with...new characters will die quite a bit starting out. You can always cheat and get a lot of starting equipment from new characters that you "plunder."

They were fun for the time, though. BT3 had an auto-mapping feature that was incredibly advanced, for the time.

Yeah, but Bard's Tale is similar to a lot of other games on purpose. It parodies a lot of RPG cliches...like being stuck hunting rats when you're a low level newb.
