I'm at the battle where you have to save the refugees. i know you need to get whatshisface to switch the tracks but that's all i've got... the refugees keep getting killed anyway. what's the best way to keep them all alive?

all the faqs at gamefaqs.com just say to switch tracks and save the refugees but they don't go into any damn detail

I've got ONE saved after three tries. how to I save all 5 from getting killed?

many thanks my fellow shining forcers

You know I don't remember ever switching the tracks. This is purely from memory so you'll probably need to try it a few times, but move the refugees as far as they can go each turn and/or as far away from the monsters as possible. If you do it right, this should buy you about 3 to 4 turns, I think. Either way if you want to save them, you need to bee line to the boss with as many heavy hitting characters as you can. Once you get there you should be able to kill him within 1 to 2 turns depending on criticals.

I'm sure there's a better way than that, I seem to have a thing about doing stuff the hard way, but it does work. I've gotten 5 a couple of times but normallly end up with at least 4.

I just did it a few weeks ago.

Get Dantares down as fast as you can. Make sure he has healing items, as he's going to be all alone up against 3 enemies. Move the refugees toward the break in the fence. You have NO room for error, there is only one turn on which you can accomplish getting the track switched in time and getting the refugees across the track.

Move your main party towards the boss, but leave one or two stronger characters in the back to run interference from the two enemies that are behind you. Once the refugees cross the first train tracks, have them move as far to the left (closer to the boss) as you can. Make sure Dantares keeps pulling them a little farther to the right each turn (give him a spear, or just give up on attacking).

When the second train pulls past, get the refugees across, but make sure you have some of your main party interposed in between them and the boss's entourage. I think it's impossible to completely block them off right away, but if you give the enemy tempting targets (weak-defensive creatures or Synbios) they should go after them instead of the refugees.

Thank for the help! I made it through with just one refugee fatality and that's good enough for me. That is one long-ass battle.

Next question: I am in the graveyard and it seems the monk wants to kill all the zombies as they are really just possessed villagers. I'm fine with that but the zombies keep attacking my characters and the zombies get the occasional beat down with a counter, totally canceling the requirement that the monk gets them all.

Will de-equipping all my people for this one battle prevent this? Also, how do I get the monk to move his ass a bit faster? Sometimes he just stands there during his turn. If I leave the hero over to a zombie (I named my hero "Peubert") will the monk follow and get the zombie? Again, the faq is unclear.

I know, I'm cheating with the faq. I don't want to miss anything and get my ass handed to me again.

Can't help ya there, I gave up on that part. I beat the game fine without any hidden characters.

I gave up, too. I love this game but some of the battles are damn tedious.

I hate it when a character (usually the lead) does some awesome one-hit kill with a special move and then gets ONE experience point.

I must admit... there's somethihg to be said for the 2-D games from the Genny, Sega CD, and Game Gear. The music is great in SF3 but the screen gets awfully busy at times and it's hard to look at old 3-D games and not wince at the graphics.
