So I've got over NINE THOUSAND Genesis consoles, add-ons, a/v cables and AC adapters.

I've been reading horror stories on these forums about consoles exploding from the wrong power supplies being used, so let's sort it out. Here's what I have!

All are USA versions unless noted.
- Genesis Model 1
- Genesis Model 2
- Sega CD Model 2
- CD-X
- 32X

And here's the p/n's of the various power supplies!
- MK-2103 (x3; two are 15w and one is 16w? one of the 15w one came with a boxed 32x I picked up at the thrift)
- 1602-1
- 1602-3

So what goes to what? Help a brother out.

Thanks!

AC Adapter breakdown:

model #1602 for Genesis 1 (which should also be functional for both Sega CD models)

model #2103 for Genesis 2 (which should also be functional for the 32X)

You couldn't POSSIBLY mistake the CD-X power supply for any of the others.

It's massive. Only second in size to the old Colecovision AC Adapter (which was like an XBOX 360 power brick on a 2-pronged plug).

Hope that helps! ;)

It does, thank you!

Quick question/comment: I've been using a MK-2103 on my CDX... do you know of/forsee any issues with this?

On Sega-16's guide to hooking up a 32X to a CDX, dude shows the CDX power supply, which looks quite a bit different from the MK-2103 I am using.

Any idea what the CDX ac adapter is rated at, and its polarity? Anyone else?

I just want to make sure I don't assplode all my Genesis stuff.

Is there any significant different between the 1602-1 and 1602-3? They seem to be pretty much the same... same plug and all.

I"ve had to set up a Genny/CD/32x combo after having it long stored and got quite confused about the power supplies.

As you might assume, the plug with the higher wattage goes to the CD. and the smaller to the Genny. Sorry I dont have better info than that, guess I'm just post-happy today.

Like Xian said ... the SLIGHTLY higher wattage plug goes towards operating the CD units ... though, I believe that I've seen the standard Genesis 1 plugs operate the CD machines and the CD plugs operate the Genesis 1 units with no discernable damage.

But, if you've got all of them, use them the way that Sega intended. Doesn't look like there's a need to do it any other way.

I also have a question on Sega CD and power supplies.

I've just bought a "box-o-stuff" at a flea market, including a Sega CD (I assume the first version... it's the side by side with the old Sega Genesis I on the left). The only power supplies that came in the box are actually Nintendo and Game Gear adapters. The Nintendo does fit, but the system doesn't power up. Can someone tell me what the voltage/wattage of the a/c 1602 power supply should be? I can't tell if the system is broken, or the power supplies are just not compatible.

Thanks!

The NES plug shouldn't be compatible, AFAIK. And the side-by-side SCD you're talking about (I assume it's a toploader?) is actually the second revision, designed to look better with the Genesis 2, which looks pretty awkward on the frontloading SCD.

As for the 1602 power supply...well, I don't know much about this stuff, so here's what it says, verbatim:

Output: 9V DC 1.2A

EDIT: Oh yeah, and 35W
