I loved the TurboGrafx but never got the CD add-on peripheral or the TurboDuo. I've been checking out more of those games recently (via emulation cuz I'm broke) and while doing so I read that the box for the TurboGrafx-CD was way oversized for what I believe was a small add-on. I looked around on the net for a picture of the box but coudn't find one.
Does anybody have a picture or link they could post? I'm curious as hell now what this damn box looks like.

the cd attachment was not small as it came with a base that the tg16 sat on in order to allow the "cd player" to stay securely connected to the console.

Are you referring to the actual cardboard box that the CD-ROM add-on came in? I can't remember off the top of my head if the CD attachment came with the big ol' plastic carrying case for the Turbo and CD combo, or just the cream colored plastic CD jewel case carrying case. Which would explain the size of the box the CD-ROM came in. I don't remember which combo it was, or if both the CD case and console case all came together. Anyone have some info to share about that?

Yeah, I guess the base on the bottom would make the peripheral take up as much space as a TurboGrafx, and then some.
Steve, I'm referring to the actual cardboard box that the cd-rom came in. In other words, the retail box that the unit was sold in.

The Turbo CD attachment did indeed come in a very large black and orange box. A carrying case was also included but the box was still excess.

I regret I do not have a picture of the box :(

I remember seeing the boxes side-by-side at JC Penny or Sears...one of those places. I still remember how huge the CD box looked in comparison. Check out this pic, the box for the TG16 wasn't much bigger than that base down there.

Note: I can't find any pix of that box either.

Is the outer box really that rare? I have one on my shelf right now that I can snap a couple of pics of. It's not in that great of condition, but it's intact at least.

i never even saw the CD attachment at my local toy r us and i had a TG16 system already
i didnt know the CD attachment even came in a hardcase untill i got an ebay account in 2002 when i was looking to buy the Cd unit, the only pic i saw up to that point was the Cd unit itself
i would like to see the huge cardboard box myself

Here ya go guys. Like I said, the box is a bit rough, but I guess it's rarer than I thought.

That's definitely it. I sold my boxed Turbo CD for $425 a year ago. It had everything -- styrofoam, manuals, even twist ties and the Wards receipt. I had no clue it was that rare. Kinda cool...but stupidly oversized box. You could easily fit a vacuum cleaner in there.

Thanks 98PaceCar for posting the box pictures.
Its been a long time since I see it. I sold my Turbo Grafx 16 and Turbo CD in their boxes back in 1994 as I had a Duo.
Some time I wish I keep that box for Lulz LOL

Thanks! Would you mind opening it up and giving us a look inside? What's taking up all that space? It's even bigger than I remember.
The packages most remind me of what it was like to look at these things at the store. Seeing pix like this always makes me wish I had the space to collect boxed items. I also wish the box had a use other than just looking at. That box sure brings back some memories though!

Thanks for the pics guys, i guess this was released when CDs came in long boxes and companies werent worried so much about generating excess garbage.

Indeed this was released at the time when compact discs were packaged in long outer boxes ^_~
I remember the Turbo CD being my first CD player and purchasing some music CDs that were in those boxes. I had saved them but my mother threw them out back in the mid 90's. Turbo Grafx CDs were also packaged in outer cardboard boxes but not as long as music CDs.
