I'm no DS collector, but Chibi Robo DS is only being sold at walmart. Do you think it'll become rare?

Probably not. Walmart is the largest retailer on the planet and I am guessing this will be in stock and available for a long time. Lots of other games have been store exclusives at Toys R Us, Blockbuster, etc...and none of them have become really become hard to find.

I agree. We've already had some DS exclusives (at Gamestop), and none of them are hard to find or worth very much.

The only reason why Chibi Robo may be any different is that the series has a bit of a cult following. That could translate to demand down the road, but I don't think it will be rare.

yeah I doubt it as well, exclusives and collector's ed. these days often times don't translate to rare.

What about Clayfighter 1/3 Sculptor's Cut...that was a Blockbuster exclusive...and it's rare.

So is the game good?

I enjoy Chibi-Robo on the GCN. I would not mind getting this game if it is a quality game.

Rental exclusives are not the same as for sale only at certain stores exclusives.

I think you guys are forgetting Electroplankton being an online only Nintendo Store release when it came out. Thats a toughie to get without question.

The only other 'exclusive' DS games that have come out to a specific store so far are Tenchu: Dark Secret, The Settlers and Mega Man Star Force: Dragon all of which are GS/EB exclusives. In the future they will be harder to get titles, but with current distribution they are all still pretty out there in availibility (with Tenchu being the oldest exclusive title and still in some GS stores).

Nintendo's support of Chibi has been so-so and they didn't think that it would sell so well that it should get such a wide distribution is my guess as to why its gone the exclusive route.

Actually, my local game store Microplay stocked that game! You could get it to sell if you were a retailer, it just wasn't in the same distribution channels like most other games.

The other thing that seems to happen is that games start off as exclusives and when they don't sell well or the exclusivity period runs out, they end up being available at a discount. Age of Empires on the DS was once a GS/EB exclusive and now it's available anywhere that stocks Majesco releases. Similarly, the Dora the Explorer "game" for the PS2 was originally a TRU exclusive but now is available at multiple retailers. I'm sticking by my original assesment. There are over 4,000 Walmart or Sam's Club locations in the United States. I'm willing to bet each one will receive at least a handful of copies of this, not to mention the on-line store. That means a minimum run of probably 25,000 copies which is more than some of the non-exclusive but not widely distributed DS games that are truly hard to find.

I'm assuming that your talking about Electroplankton. Those copies only showed up after Nintendo decided to clear out their online store stock. GameStop/EB also got copies in (all be it not many stores got copies, and the ones that did only got 1 to the best of my knowledge) because thats where I got my copy.

Well Wal-Mart has an entire display for the game and an "exclusive" red DS Lite available as a promotion. I think I'll pick the game up when the price heavily drops, I'm sure most people have never even played Chibi Robo, let alone heard of it.

After visiting a couple of Walmarts in San Diego this morning, I'm positive this will never be rare. Each store not only had a special display, but at least 15 copies in the case. I'm estimating the print run to be closer to 50K given the number of Walmart stores in the US. That's significantly more than most of the uncommon DS games.

I'll let you know when it shows up in the mail sometime in the next two or three days.

I recently received a promotional email message from Nintendo for this game. I doubt it will make a 'top-ten DS rarity list' when everything is said and done.

I liked GCN Chibi-Robo, so I'll probably pick up the DS one at some point (maybe during my biennial 'Black Friday' Walmart visit).

Maybe it's just Canada, but EB Games up here is carrying Chibi-Robo for the DS.

I doubt it will be rare but it is real friggin good, especially if you were a fan of the gamecube version.

If anyone is a Walmart hater, you can always import the Canadian version. The front cover has no Walmart logo on it. Not sure if the back cover is multi-lingual, but it is an option if you won't support Walmart like some of us.

Super Mario Bros 3 for GBA with the extra Wal-Mart exclusive cards is not easy to find. Just an observation.

Sure, but you're talking about a game that included a premium where the premium itself is in demand. As has been discussed in other threads, lots of buyers misplace or throw away things like premiums and even the box itself in the case of GBA games. The fact that DS games come in plastic cases makes it a lot less likely that anything is going to get misplaced and pretty much guarantees that this game will be available in complete form on the resale market for many years to come.
