Well I happened to be in Game Crazy looking for an extension for my PS2 controller when I decided to dig through the clearance game bin. Mostly the usual crap 30 PSX controllers, 100 so NES,Genesis, PSX sports games, and right at the bottom I spy a Game Genie. I pulled it out to find nothing more than a CIB Genesis Game Genie. Purchased it went home opened it up. It looks wonderful. The box is pretty worn (corners have lots of wear as does the top) but the manual is in good shape (small bend on the upper corner) and the Game Genie cart is in excellent shape. Any ideas on a price guys? I picked it up for $2.21

Price is average $2.50. You may get it for $5 if you sell it.

What? Where are you getting these numbers from?

A boxed Game Genie is worth $15-$20 on average, depending on condition. You could easily get $10 for it.

there were two releases, a very large boxed version and a small boxed version, the smaller box version has a non-shiny label. the larger box naturally is worth a bit more then the small version.

Most likely from ebay.

I'd have said the same thing. 15-20 is way high.

This is the smaller box version. It has the "new smaller package outside, same Game Genie Power inside!" on it. The box is silver and has a sheen to it but I would not say it is shiney.

I've gotten many things on eBay that no one else bothered to bid on for a penny (sealed Atari games, brand new CDs/DVDs)...does that mean they're worth a penny?

In a fixed price setting, $10-$15 is the going rate for a CIB Game Genie...and a quick glance at completed auctions shows several that have sold at that price. I've sold nice boxed NES/SNES versions for $20-$25. If you put a CIB copy up with a $10 BIN, someone will buy it.

I got my CIB one in a similar sounding condition for $1 at a local pawn shop. I believe a cart-only would be worth several bucks but a CIB might reach $15. It's nothing to go insane over but is a nice tool to have if you're in a games tight spot or just want to clown around with enhancements.

What site are you looking at ?

There was only one complete two on Ebay in the last 30 days and one didn't even sell for $4.99 and the other sold for $3.24

If some suckers pays too much for an item in an ebay store does it make it worth that much? It does if those are the only ones we can find in the completed auction search. All I saw were cheap ones.

In this case I thought it was worth about $5 did a search and the search seemed to confirm what I initially believed. This is Genesis so 15-20 would make it one of the most expensive games for that system.

I agree. Once again, Ebay is NOT the definitive price guide for everything under the sun. You can go ahead and sell it for $20 today, and yet again get $0.50 for it tomorrow. It all depends on who is looking, who knows what it is worth, who doesn't, who doesn't care...and so on.

That said, it's really worth around five bucks to me.

Or play imports :) I use mine in conjunction with a code to play Alien Soldier (Euro)...only because I am cheap as hell and haven't splurged on a correct converter :)

Point taken, which is why I went for the middle road by suggesting the $10 BIN price.

In any event, I think this thread has served its purpose...how long are people going to bicker about an effing Game Genie?

Where do you get the genesis game genie import codes from? I just got a new game genie in the mail from ebay and I want to use it to play my Japanese import genesis version of TMNT: Hyperstone Heist.

I got one for a buck, and use it for Pulseman.

Most games may be able to work without a code, but my only MD game is Pulseman, so I have no idea, really.

The value is kinda overestimated. There's plenty to go around, man. But Hey, good value for the find, man @ OP.
